B&L Recovery & Towing — Attraction in Carteret

I had to give at least a one star because they wouldn't let me go any lower in order to leave a comment. And honestly I believe this is a story NEEDS to be told. It was one thing after another. Let me start off with being the worst experience in any company I have ever had, and I still wonder till this day how they're still running. To sum this up as much as possible. First I was charged beyond belief for my car back. They didn't want to work with me in coming up with any other solutions at first until they had my car trapped and out of reach. But when they did, they try to pull off a fast one. I was charged to the point where my car wasn't even worth it anymore. In results I had to give up my title to the car and still they asked for more money. After giving up the car I was asked weird questions almost as if they wanted to take the car for themselves. So they did get a free car that just needed a tune up on the engine. After I gave up the title and paid off the rest that I owed, I was denied to get my stuff out of the car and my license plates until the next following week, just cause they closed the lot 40 minutes ago. Good thing I asked for a copy of the receipt, Cause the next week I arrived and forgot to bring it. The manager thought I didn't have a receipt and came up with the ONLY lie saying in their system they had my car for over 40 days when they only had it for less then a week. I was informed that it was given to port authorities and I now owe them $1200. So i came in the next day with the receipt and that same manager saw it. Being left in silence because I had all the evidence I needed (he felt stupid), knowing if there were any additional trouble from that point on, I was going to get the authorities involved. So keep in mind that I was told it was being held at port authority...and for some reason they just so happened to have it on their lot the next morning...I would love to see them talk their way out of that. Come to think of it, if it was being held at port authority why do I have to pay them the $1200 to get my car back? Should I have to deal with the authorities from that point on?

So my advise to all of you. AVOID this company at all cause. And I should have read the review before anything else.

By the way B&L, don't send me that same copy and past message "We're sorry about your experience. Please contact our offices if there is anything we can do to help." I'm here to speak out and tell everyone what type of company I had no choice but to deal with. It's called freedom of speech. Deal with it. I'm letting people know to avoid from being caught in the situation as others have been put in...

Avoid this place at all cost, unless you want to pay 4X the amount of a normal rework/restack. Sent a truck in that had a slightly shifted load in the trailer. This was 20 pallets of tomatoes. We had the first 8 pallets restacked at a different facility, but that facility was closing early so we had to send them to B&L because the truck had a delivery the following day that we could not miss. The product in the trailer wasn't tipped over, nothing was on the floor, the load was just slightly shifted and needed to be straightened up. When I first called B&L, they told me the cost would be somewhere around $50-$100/pallet depending on how badly they were shifted. They ended up charging us about $200/pallet. When I first spoke with B&L, I also informed them that the first 8 pallets had already been restacked and did not need to be reworked again. Without asking, they went ahead and redid the 8 pallets and included those in the cost of the rework, which means that the cost we paid to have those done was now a complete waste of money. They originally told us it was going to be $4600 for straightening up 20 pallets. In my 5 years in the industry I've probably had to get around 100 loads restacked and have never paid more than $2000 for a full rework, and that was with product that was spilled all over the floor. This load was barely shifted and they wanted to charge us $4600. After a lot of discussion with the owner, he agreed to lower the cost to $4000. Since the work had already been done, we had no other choice than to pay it, as they wouldn't reload the truck until we paid the amount. We paid the $4000 and ended up being sent a receipt showing that the amount due and amount paid was $4400, even though we have statements proving we only paid $4000. Definitely something sketchy going on with this business, charging 4X the normal amount, lying on the phone about rates, and creating an receipt showing...

I STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND this place. They towed my Semi Truck and trailer from a parking lot in Avenel where the Kmart used to be, mind you that I parked overnight there the previous week with no issues. Even the cop that assisted me with trying to locate my vehicle said that vehicles aren’t usually towed in that area. After looking around the lot carefully we found a sign that was not close to where I park my truck that read Tow Away Zone mind you there was no number listed on the sign on who to contact in case your vehicle was towed! I finally located my truck and called up B&L immediately they said I’d have to wait until the following day as their billing department was closed. I waited, arrived around 9:30 am the very next day and was told by B&L that I would have to pay a ridiculous amount ($1100.00 Cash) to release my truck. When I questioned why so much their response was because the truck was here for 2 days! My truck was only there for 12 hours meanwhile they charged me for 2days!!!!! The people that work there are very very RUDE and disrespectful, when my wife and I pulled into the yard to go get the truck , one of the employees came out with a crow bar like he was ready to fight. I noticed that my truck was broken into by B&L, when I questioned the manager he was like “how would I know I wasn’t there” Another one of the workers named “Buddy”escorted me to my truck and was hustling me and using obscene language telling me to get out of their yard while I was inspecting my truck to make sure everything was in tact. He threatened me that if he ever saw my truck anywhere that he will vandalize it!!!!! I tried reporting this to the heavy set guy in the office and he stated that no one was present to help me. They are clearly getting away with taking advantage of people!!!! Pray that you never have to do business with this place, they are not worthy of anybody’s...
