Deceptive Pricing and Poor Customer Service – Potential Legal Violation
I recently visited this location and had a disappointing and concerning experience regarding pricing and staff conduct. While shopping, I saw employees actively stocking books from tote carts onto the 99 cent book shelf shelf. Among them was a matching set of five paper back books, clearly being placed for sale at that price. I picked them up directly from that area.
When I brought the books to the register, the cashier looked at them and said they “should have a different price.” I explained that I saw a store employee place them on the 99-cent shelf moments earlier. Despite this, she left to check and came back with a new, significantly higher price which is more than double what they were originally marked.
I calmly explained the situation again. She called a manager, and I repeated my statement to him. He refused to acknowledge what I said, wouldn’t explain the price change, and simply repeated, “That’s the price now... do you want it or not?” He made no effort to have a respectful or reasonable conversation.
This kind of behavior may be in violation of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (FDUTPA), Sections 501.201–501.213, which prohibits misleading pricing practices and bait and switch tactics. Placing items on a clearly marked discount shelf and then arbitrarily raising the price at the register is misleading and unfair to customers.
It’s disappointing to encounter this kind of service. I hope the management takes steps to ensure better training and compliance with fair...
Read morePurchased a nearly $200 set of speakers after being reassured they were tested, and that I could exchange for store credit within 7 days that I could use at any time of my choosing; no expiration. This was told to me by the manager Abdul. I loaded these things into and out of my car in near 100 degree weather. I test them at home and of course it. Barely works. Rear speakers dull humming noise, and there's no way to use these as just audio. Every thing has to be fed through the built in dvd player first to then reach the audio. That means no chromecast which I rely on. I brought these back today and spoke to another manager who did not seem at all involved in our conversation. Despite the other manager and cashier telling me it was an exchange for store credit I get to use when I want, this other manager says I have to use it all today to exchange. This store is typically just a collection of garbage so I'm not going to grab $200 worth of nonsense. She refused to provide me contact info for the GM so I'm awaiting response from corporate. Mislead completely by a manager and a cashier, and manager does not want to honor their mistake. I have gone here for years but no more. Absolute...
Read moreI see a lot of comments on here about no fifty percent off items of clothing on the racks, I'm going to tell you why.i worked there years ago, they have employees pull the half off tags on Thursdays to make room for all the new clothes they get in, then the half off clothes go yep, you guessed it right into the salvage bin.the managers laugh at the customers behind their backs when they complain about the half off items not being there.this is totally unfair to the customers, and they have the right to complain. And about the people that price the wares there's a guy back there that has no clue what he's doing, they tell him to keep upping the price even a dollar more. He's a total moron. The managers got their jobs there because they can't get real management jobs at any other place. And the handbags they look up the prices of what they are new and then they do half of that on their price tags. This place is a corrupt organization and when people finally realize that maybe they'll go somewhere else try the Christian sharing center where they're good good people and they really do help the community. You can find ladies ,shirts men's shirts ,shoes half of what Goodwill is...
