Parlor City Pub & Eatery — Restaurant in Cedar Rapids

Disappointed on how we were treated. This used to be one of our favorite places in Cedar Rapids. Every time we were in town we would frequent here.

My fiancé booked our rehearsal dinner here with who we assume is the owner’s husband. We were thinking about the menu and had some questions, so we reached out and were told THEY DIDN’T have us scheduled. As you could understand we were upset and frantic.

When my fiancé initially went to book the rehearsal they said they didn’t need a contract or a payment to hold. The man sounded like he was getting in and out of a car, so we assume he got busy and forgot to write it down. Mistakes happen but there was no apology. The “solution” was to sit in the dining room but not have it reserved so anyone walking off the street could be a part of our rehearsal dinner…. I don’t know about you but isn’t the point of a rehearsal dinner is to have a separate room?

We were ghosted from the owner when we asked how this happened and explained that we did talk to a man and he confirmed the date. Not sure how they wouldn’t rectify the situation and go back to the people they booked over us as we did have the confirmation first.

Long story short, make sure to get written confirmation via email or text as they do not keep their word. Very disappointed as this was our spot, but sadly we will likely never go back due to the disrespect we were shown. As we didn’t even get an apology but...

Great waitress & service, but very disappointing visit won’t go back. Have had better, but last 3 visits have been increasingly disappointing. Food was very greasy (4 napkins for 1 chicken tender greasy.) Food was slightly burnt, oil needed to be changed. Took 39 minutes for a burger & sampler. Fried pickles were so greasy we could not eat them. Burger had no seasoning it tasted like a frozen patty tossed on the grill. Burger was served with fries. Asked for extra crispy fries, came out not cooked all the way. Was very loud. Waitress was very attentive & kind. On my other recent visit with a group, we reserved the back room. We were told we were bumped into the middle room where we became the walkway for the large party in the back. The doors didn’t stay closed to the back room so no one could hear each other and every 3 minutes someone had to get up and close the door. Food was very disappointing...

Love the beer selection. Food is okay, but nothing special (except for the pizza, which is absolutely delicious). For a pub, decent.

The biggest issue I have with this location is the inclusion of live music in a venue that obviously wasn't built for it. If you go on the weekend with friends/family, you shouldn't plan on having any conversation with them. The music is always incredibly loud and the (super cool normally) ceiling tiles don't absorb any of it. You won't be able to hear anything a foot away from you. If you're not specifically going to hear the band, don't bother; turn around and walk out.

Sadly, that fact alone is enough for me to knock off a star. There are far-better venues nearby that offer good beer (perhaps not as MANY types), equally-as-good food, and are quiet enough to at least offer a chance at...
