The Little Market — Attraction in Center Township

Small unassuming store packed with a big surprise! The moment my sister and I walked in we were greeted by somebody we couldn’t see saying good morning and welcome. I absolutely have so many great things to say about this place, so I’ll try to sum it up. We got pork tamales and cheese & jalapeño tamales. Barbacoa and carnitas that were the most generous pound of each I have ever seen in my life,fresh pico de gallo, fresh guacamole, the best avocado I’ve ever had (they are huge) outside of Mexico (and the gentleman went in back and picked the perfect one for me), 1 pack of corn tortillas (I already had quite a few at home but just in case) 3 limes, and 1 of my favorite Mexican coconut candies. I honestly haven’t had better barbacoa since I was a little kid in South Chicago. I mean that honestly. The tamales were huge in size and in flavor! Every bite of food we had was heavenly. Please if you haven’t tried this place, if you haven’t had barbacoa (shredded beef for tacos) or carnitas (chunks/shredded pork for tacos) you buy it hot by the pound and bring it home and assemble your tacos, try it from this wonderful market. Lastly…..after we checked out with our food items that we over purchased out of excitement lol (tacos and tamales all week) we were getting ready to leave the parking lot and the owner came out carrying out the groceries to the car of the lady waiting to pay behind us. Went looking for a specific spice for beef tacos, and the worker was so helpful. Another customer saw he was out of pico, and the man went in back and made pico in a few minutes. Not many stores will do that.

The little market has all the essentials for cooking authentic Mexican food. They even provide their own ready to eat- tamales (pork,chicken, jalap chz), steak for tacos, rice, beans, salsa, guac, queso dip. All the ready to eat food was reasonably priced. I bought chicken and jalap chz tamales and they were amazing. Topped them with hot salsa that was delicious and actually hot! They offer mild,medium, and hot for different preferences. Go there...

Authentic Mexican food to go in Crown Point!!! Jesus the owner cooks all the food and has it in warming ovens ready for pick up. The chicken tamales are outstanding. We purchased some Birria too and it was sooo good. My favorite so far is the 1/2 gallon of Menudo, a special tripe and pork feet soup known to cure hangovers.
