If you like American Mexican food. Go here. This place is not authentic. If it wasn't for the cooks and the stuff on the wall, it wouldn't be called a Mexican grill. The food is bland. It is okay. I got the steak fries. And kids would love it. If you are an adult then you would probably wish to have something else maybe if they added tomatoes it would give it some type of flavor. It is just fries cheese and steak. But the steak was hard and chewy. Sure it is a lot of steak but not really worth it when you have to add salsa or ketchup just for it too taste good. The salsa is also bland. It is just tomatoes blended up with onions. The shrimp taco was the best but next time ask for no lettuce and for the tortillas to actually be cooked longer. The AL pastor was not al pastor but Chorizo. I'm sure they fool a lot of people with that one. It is definitely better than Chipotle next door but I probably won't be back. Unless I want chips. The service was not good. I didn't like that customer come in and make a mess with their kids and instead of cleaning the lady sits down. Even when everyone was gone, she still sits down instead of doing anything that needs to be done. The bathroom always has an employee in it. If it is not one side, it is the other. They should really change the signs to uni sex because in an emergency, one is always going to have an employee. The employee seem to only be good at one thing. And can't be bothered to do anything else. When I have been to other Mexican restaurants that one person can do it all. And they clean and wash there hands and switch their gloves out a lot. There is no hussle at this place. Seems to be a theme in the comments. It is always messy. I cleaned up as much as I can because I don't want to be the reason places are a mess. Like other comments say. Waitress doesn't thank you for anything even when you tip. And kinda just gives you the feel of can you please leave. Go through the drive thu next time. They are obviously overworked and overwhelmed. I give it a three because it isn't the best but it isn't the worst place to be. I would say...
Read moreI typically don't like to give a bad review but when I am on my lunch and my time is limited, I don't want to be wasting my time or my money on bad food. I generally will check the reviews and if there are one or two bad ones, then I try to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, in this case, the negative reviews were pretty accurate.
I felt like service was mediocre, the establishment itself was not very clean, water was pouring in from the ceiling on account of the rain outside ( which could have been a new problem that they weren't aware of).
However, the reason I'm there is the food. I am not a picky person, and I certainly wouldn't usually call something gross unless I've had a truly terrible experience. This is genuinely one of those times where I can honestly say it was not very good.
The chips were fairly greasy but at some places that is to be expected. Usually the salsa is the redeeming factor. The salsa here tasted somewhat close to V8. It was very watery and not much flavor. I ordered one of the lunch specials off the menu which consisted of the chile relleno and a taco and came with rice and beans.
I did give them two stars because the portions are absolutely huge. You do get a lot for your money. The little side of guacamole was definitely the best part of the meal. The chili relleno had an insane amount of cheese to the point where it was nearly inedible and I love cheese. The taco was not good. It was big, but came with a mountain of cilantro. It looked appetizing enough but the meat lacked flavor. It essentially tasted like ground beef with onion and cilantro. The rice was mid and the beans were decent.
I think next time I need tacos in Crown Point, I'll wait for any day that's not Monday and go to my...
Read moreI'll give this place a solid 3/5. I've ordered from here 3 times, twice more recently, for take-out of course.
First comment I have is related to the price, which they can't (won't?) do anything about. Sorry, it's a bit steep compared to what I've bought nearby for similar quality food. For example, at 12.99 for their "giant" burrito, it's about $2-3 too expensive. A large mexican rice for $6.49? Eeeh...it's not even that large. Last time I went in there, I ordered their giant burrito, fajitas, 2 kids' burrito meals, a large rice, large salsa and chips, large cheese, and large guac, and ended up at $70. The large cheese and guac were probably what set me over, but a family dinner for $70 is about $10-$15 more than what I'm used to spending for takeout mexican food for my family.
Second is the packing of the takeout bags. They really need to figure out a better way, because it was a miracle that the bags didn't drip all over my passenger seat on the way home with how much sauce was inside, and those plastic bags tear pretty easily. None of the containers stayed closed particularly well, and it looked like whoever closed them was rushed. When takeout is basically your only option, something like this should be done better.
Third, the paper menu basically requires a magnifying glass. The text is just way too small, even if you have great vision.
Lastly, I'm not a fan of their tortilla chips. They're too hard, too thick. and you basically cut the roof of your mouth with them if you're not careful.
All in all, decent food, priced about 10-15% higher than I expected for the quality and quantity, poorly packaged for take-out, a terribly executed menu, and tortilla chips that leave much...
