Helms Park — Attraction in Champaign

Helms park is a city water retention area that provides greenscape walking paths, homes for wildlife, and native plants. The manmade waterfalls are functional yet pleasant and beautiful. The wide concrete paved paths with benches are accessible for a variety of physical abilities. Wrought iron tables along Springfield make wonderful places to eat in the shade and enjoy the view. Really nice park with interesting history. Too bad people litter. We had a curious 4 yr old along who likes to pick up everything, including a vape, a used mask, and a syringe....all of which were within a few steps of a garbage can. Over all, it's a beautiful park that the city and Army Corps of Engineers have tried to give the community while solving flooding issues. Overall it is clean. It's a beautiful area and the animals around it aren't something you have to be worried about getting to close to which can't be said with many other places.
