I have noticed a lot of negative reviews on here for Kam’s. Reviews are supposed to be subjective, so that is fine. However, I do feel as if Kam’s is being held to a standard it is not trying to reach. I went through four years of undergrad at UIUC and attended Kam’s throughout my time as a student. I loved it! Not all students will love it, and that is okay. With that being said, I think it is important to manage expectations about Kam’s. I mentioned the majority of negative reviews on this page, and I believe it is possible that others may have come here expecting one product and getting another. I feel their disappointment is similar to if one was expecting to eat ate a steakhouse and then was served a Big Mac. With that being said, this is what to expect and not to expect while at Kam’s. EXPECT to pay cover any time of the day ($5 standard, $10 peak, $20+ special events or weekends) EXPECT the floor to be wet (this is because of the popularity of “Icing Out” on campus) EXPECT long lines EXPECT workers to be cranky (A lot of bar backs are also fraternity pledges, so they’re never in good moods) EXPECT loud, and often, vulgar music DO NOT EXPECT a place to sit DO NOT EXPECT a waitress to come and get your order DO NOT EXPECT an extensive bar (you can order Beer, Seltzer, or Well Drinks. That’s all) DO NOT EXPECT clean bathrooms
Kam’s is what you make of it. Do not come with high standards. This is a college party bar through...
Read moreKAM'S is known far and wide as THE University of Illinois campus bar. No one else comes close to having the rich heritage that can be seen on the walls in the form of historic pictures. That thick smell that hits you like a brick wall lets you know exactly what you are in for. No it isn't puke. It is the scent of the concentrated syrup used in Blue Guys. No amount of bleach can cleanse the bar of its signature drink.
KAM'S is always the last stop before and the first stop after commencement. What better way to move forward in life than to look back at the place which helped propel thousands of students into the rest of their lives.
I was lucky enough to witness USA beat Russia in a shootout Olympic hockey game at 6am on a brisk morning. Students flocked out of their apartments in droves at 5:30 to a place they could call home. A place they could be with their closest friends and classmates to bond together over American pride. After the USA put in their clinching goal all that could be heard was a joyous uproar; a celebration with friends.
This is more than just a campus...
Read moreWould give zero stars if I could. Not only are the floors extremely sticky and/or wet, the place smells like vomit, and the drinks are over priced with virtually no alcohol in them - I had a bouncer take my friend's vape out of my hand with no warning, because he decided I can't have a vape despite passing numerous people ACTIVELY vaping. While it does say "no tobacco" on a small sign on the door, I did not know this and offered to leave if he gave it back, as I was not hitting the vape and I felt terrible since it wasn't mine. This bouncer then explicitly said he'd take a $$$ bribe to give it back, meanwhile after explaining the situation to another bouncer, I got it back WITHOUT illegally bribing the rude, unprofessional bouncer just trying to make a quick buck... I just wish I had told the polite bouncer that this guy wanted a bribe, so maybe he'd get...
