John L. Dart Library — Attraction in Charleston

Stopped by here to do use the computer as a guest and charge up my devices as I'm on a road trip.

Clean pretty small library. Computer works fast, other patrons quiet. I'm not used to a security guard being in a library, but I'm sure there's a reason they have him. I had an extremely pleasant experience while being here.

I went a Monday evening. 9/23/24 the security guard greeted me on the way in, which I found to be very professional and kind. He sat near the door the first thirty minutes of me being there.

As I used the computer I noticed the security guard moved from the front door to only a couple feet away from me to my immediate left. I didn't turn to look at first cause I knew it was him and assumed he was just noticing the library from a different view.

About aft r five minutes of him standing there I turn to look and his eyes and locked on me, he doesn't turn away and all and gives me this smile .

I feel like he was watching me quiet a while and I just didn't notice. I hope I'm wrong but this made me extremely uncomfortable. I looked away to make sure there wasn't something strange sitting beside me causing he to stare, there wasn't. I looked away and looked right back , he was still staring at me. It felt inappropriate and made me very uncomfortable. I covered the side of my face with my hand and he still stood there.

After 5-7 minutes covering my face he finally moved back to the front door.

I was covered head to toe not wearing anything skimpy. Otherwise I liked the library. I wouldn't...

This is the best library of all CCPL locations. Not in the amount of selection bc it is a smaller building, but the staff is simply so helpful and knowledgeable it's truly refreshing. ALSO another phenomenal thing is they have a free produce cooler by entrance that has provided me and my family with so many veggies and fruits it's a Godsend blessing. I mean onions tomatoes...

This is one of the most friendliest staffed library they are always willing to make sure you get what you need to get and help you also and the renovation that was done is superb I stay close to it and they are awesome thanks to all the people who works here keep their establishment in good shape Thank you Sincerely...
