Great historic walking tour of the city! It was the first thing I did after I landed and gave me a GREAT layout of the land, covered interesting aspects of Charleston history, architecture and culture. This is my first trip to Charleston. The groups are small and feel personal. The group was diverse in background, hometown and age- truly a great experience for everyone. My tour guide Eric was very knowledgeable and there was plenty of time for questions along the route. Plus, Eric recommended excellent restaurants and things to do in the area during the rest of my trip. I also appreciated this truly being a walking tour - no gimmicks, sales, advertisements or pressure of any time. Just incredibly knowledge and dedicated expert tour guides who want to share this great city with visitors. Could not have been a better experience and glad I found this!
Walking was great, especially after a cramped plane ride. A few in the group were stretching their legs after long car rides as well. No steps or anything and frequent stops at sites to chat in the shade. Tour was about 2 hours and ended where we started. FYI many of the streets in Charleston are old ( brick sidewalks, cobblestone streets, slate, etc) and uneven. I strongly recommend good walking shoes. If you have balance or mobility difficulties, consider a carriage tour instead. But if you’re the kind of person who wants to explore the area on foot- this was absolutely the best way to...
Read moreAmazing tour my wife and I took of Charleston. Our guide Scott was very engaging, funny, and knowledgeable of the history of Charleston. We would HIGHLY recommend this tour to any one. PLUS - Scott gave all of us his cell phone to contact him via text afterwards if we had any questions. He had given the group tons of places to see, visit, eat, etc. His recommendation to go for lunch at Poogan's Porch was spot on - fried chicken and the shrimp and grits were the BEST! We took him up on his offer to text him 2 questions which he got back to us immediately - best place to eat on Sullivan Island - answer Obstinate Daughter and 2nd question the nest plantation which we would assume Magnolia but he said HANDS DOWN - Middleton Place Plantation - is the best & oldest formal gardens in the Western Hemisphere.
He was so right on BOTH! Food was amazing and the Middleton Place Plantation was beautiful. The volunteer employees that were there educated us on so much history!
Thank you to Free Tours By Foot as we would never have gone to these...
Read moreThis walking tour was the highlight of our Charleston trip! Diana was a fantastic guide, she has great energy and shared fascinating stories throughout that made learning about Charleston's history so fun and entertaining. For two hours, she kept our group of 20 engaged in the summer heat - we ran a bit late and she gave us the option to bounce if we wanted to, but we all wanted to stay and finish the tour because she was just that great. My husband asked a question about a cocktail he saw on Husk's menu and Diana emailed us afterwards to provide a historic background on that specific cocktail! What! Thank you Diana for following up, my husband appreciated learning about the origins of the Dragoon punch.
Be sure to preregister for the tour - a few folks showed up thinking they could just join or hoped for no-shows/attrition, but there are capacity limits with how many people each guide can have.
These guides are wonderful and work so hard to make this a special tour for us tourists, bring cash and tip well!!...
