High Wire Distilling Co. is a true gem for anyone looking to experience the essence of the Low Country through craft spirits. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted by the warm ambiance and the inviting atmosphere that perfectly sets the stage for a memorable tasting experience. Mike, the bartender, was nothing short of impeccable. His knowledge of the spirits and their origins added a personal touch to my visit. He expertly guided me through the tasting, sharing the fascinating story of Jimmy Red corn, which is at the heart of High Wire's offerings. This unique corn variety, with its rich history and connection to the region, truly embodies the spirit of the South. The flavor profile of their spirits is remarkable. Each sip revealed layers of complexity, showcasing the craftsmanship behind every bottle. The smoothness and depth of flavor reflect the dedication to quality and tradition, making it evident that High Wire Distilling Co. takes pride in their craft. Overall, my experience at High Wire was a delightful journey through the flavors and stories of the Low Country. I highly recommend stopping by for a tasting and to chat with Mike—the experience will leave you with a deeper appreciation for the artistry of distilling and the rich cultural heritage that inspires it.

Let me start by saying that this little hidden gem is an anomaly among downtown spots as they have parking on site! If you can’t find a spot, there is tons of free parking directly adjacent to the building. I ended up here for a cocktail class and was totally bummed my schedule did not line up with staying for the distillery tour. High Wire combines two of Charleston’s most renowned attributes: drinking and history. The staff as so knowledgeable about the history of liquor and cocktails, it is so impressive. I got my fix of enjoying craft cocktails, while also learning about the history of the cocktail and how it has evolved through time. I cannot recommend this place enough to locals and tourists alike. I can’t wait to attend another cocktail class!

Great find in Downtown Charleston. Knowledgeable, friendly staff. Casual surroundings serving snacks and spirits. The still is the focal point backdrop to the main space. The shelves are lined with Jimmy Red whiskey. Enjoyed a few cocktails and a few flights. Had Fields of Gold which features their Hat Trick Gin. Interesting combo of flavors with the gin, horchata, and lemon. And tried the Sporting Life, a mocktail with hibiscus, blueberry, currant, lemon, and cinnamon. Two flights are an available and tried each. The Jimmy Red Bourbon and the Intro To High Wiree which included rye whiskey, bourbon, gin, and amaro. Seating available at the bar, tables, and sofa area. Merchandise also for sale.

An overall great distillery with helpful and informative staff and great drinks at the bar. The bourbons and rye are exceptional. The sherry finished bourbon is one of my favorites as is the tawny port flavored rye. The sherry finish bourbon ads some depth without leaving the bourbon overly sweet. The tawny port finish of the rye leads to a very intriguing profile that I don't find in other port finished ryes, which generally use ruby ports. The use of tawny does show through and exemplifies the care the distillery takes to get a distinct and exceptional flavor profile. The highlight for me was the single barrel bourbon which comes in at 116 proof for the bottle I have. It is exceptionally smooth for this proof point and provides ample and exceptional flavor. This is a true showcase of the heritage corn variety used, Jimmy Red, which comes from the local James Island. If this Bourbon was not local with historical significance it would be exceptional and a personal favorite, but the additional context leads me to appreciate it even more. The smoked unaged whiskey is very useful for mixing and the smoked bourbon is unique and a favorite for my friends and family. The gin, branded as 'Hat Trick' is also a go to for mixing in anything from a gimlet to a martini, Singapore Sling to gin and tonic. This distillery is a true destination for whiskey enthusiasts and a very pleasant visit for drinks regardless of...

The place is so unique, in a large building which housed an antique showroom for Studebaker cars (not to remembered by all except from past owners) and most currently used as the place for a paint plant. Located In Charleston proper in the shadow of a fabulous sandwich shop, it is the first distillery in many many years; I would imagine. I'm thinking of the boot leggers of days gone by. High Wire opened sometime in 2013. The spirits are very special and made by a great husband and wife team and assistant, Nick. Hubby Scott is a self made-distill master and is also know as a successful baker from NC who passed on this best recipes to one of the largest food companies in America. Scott proves his worth with the free tastings poured daily by gentleman Nick who will remind you of a star from Hollywood, can't put a name to such a man as I write this. Along with great conversation and story-telling from beautiful wife, Ann, who could ask for more? And, after you've been tasting and been relieved of your pressures of your beautifully perfect day in the Holy City, pick up a bottle or two, if the spirit moves ya. You won't be sorry to lug some home, they might even wrap the bottles for luggage toting. Another reason I'm glad to be living in...
