I usually never write reviews but I felt that it was very necessary. I signed up with a the team who was coming around door to door advertising the gym prior to them opening, when they were offering $1 for the first month and I choose the $10 membership. They took my payment for $1 and then I was sent the rules and regulations for the gym via email. Not once when the team members were talking to me before they took my payment did they mention any rules or the cancelation policy or annual dues. So I signed up and the gym opened the very next month. I tried to cancel weeks before my billing date rolled around and I was told I have to wait 90 days to cancel or pay $50. I asked them why wasnât I told prior to even signing up. That would mean that even if I wanted to cancel the day after I signed up I wouldnât have been able to. The lady at the desk told me that, that was the policy and I told her okay I will call back in 90 days to cancel. One month after they opened up I was billed $62 and I found that weird. I called back and was asked why I was billed $62 and I was told that was my annual fee. I looked back at the email I was sent and my annual fee was not set to come out until 9/25 but I was billed on 8/21 which makes no sense at all. I then waited until I was eligible to cancel and called in to cancel and spoke to the manager Trevor who was very nonchalant and didnât seem to care and not willing to rectify the situation or if a customer was upset or not and I was told now I have to come in person to cancel. I said what if I canât get there and he told me then you would have to have somebody sign on your behalf or we canât cancel it for you. I said okay would I be able to take my card off file, he said no you canât and I told him the card on file wonât go through and he said very smart well if the payment wonât go through then weâre just going to be sending it to collections. I said that makes no sense, I wasnât even aware of all of the polices prior to signing up and it seems like yâall are trying to keep me in a membership or make me pay money that shouldnât be paying. He said we sent you out your policy on the date you made your payment and I said correct you did but I had already made a payment which means I was already locked into the contract before yâall sent me that email even it was the same day I made a payment first based off the information I was told in person. He said well you should have read over the documents. I said okay and I asked him when would he be at the gym so I can come down and speak to him. He told me his schedule and I went down to Crunch to speak to him. I walk in and Trevor doesnât even acknowledge that I walked in and heâs the one at the front desk. I ask him the same thing I just asked him on the phone, why wasnât I told about the cancelation policy before you took my payment. He said like I told you on the phone the documents were sent over to you and you have to make sure you read them. I said why is it that there is so many customers rating Crunch a 1 star and having the exact same problem that Iâm telling you about right now. He said because we just opened and I told him thatâs even more reason why you should have great rating. I then asked him is there anything you can or say or anything and he simply told me no, this is the companyâs policy there is nothing I can do. You would have to pay the cancellation fee before we could cancel. I then asked Trevor for his bosses email or phone number and he told me he couldnât give me either one, I asked him for corporates number or email he said he wouldnât be able to give me either one of those either. He said I can give you our team managers email and have someone email you. I said okay and left. I am highlight dissatisfied and If this is how the management is run at this location I would not recommend you signing up here at all. There is a reason they are only replying to the good reviews and none of the bad ones, and Trevor said himself he does look at all...
Read moreFirst impressions rating here, subject to change as I continue going here. Recently switched from the YMCA of CLT for financial purposes. I'm pretty familiar with Crunch in other states so I was comfortable signing here blindly without a free day pass. So far a pretty good bang for your buck as with any Crunch!
Pros: This is by far the biggest Crunch I've ever been to, and its loaded with all types of BRAND NEW equipment and machines. Everything I think will suffice for a beginner all the way to an amateur bodybuilder/power lifter. The value is the biggest thing about this place. I'm only paying roughly $17 for any kind of equipment I'd need. Energy is pretty great and you really feel like working out hard. Signing up was seamless and took like 5 minutes online. They have tons of promos going on as well, I joined paying a $1 and 30 days free during Veterans day. The location is pretty nice too, close to a lot of stores for easy errands after your workout.
Cons: It's a commercial gym with a capital C, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place for people who want a quiet environment with no crowds. Peak hours are BUSY. Like uncomfortably busy if you're an introvert. It's also about twice the size of any crunch I've been to in Michigan, so twice the crowd is really saying something. I did wait on a machine and power rack, not too long though (I've had worse at the Y). Its honestly not a big deal, I can get used to it. Parking is a bit annoying, as you can imagine, but at least you don't have to park in a parking garage across the street like you do in some gyms (cough Dowd YMCA cough). Small nit pick but I wish they had normal lockers as an option in addition to the temporary combo ones (it's a small learning curve on using one and I can imagine people accidentally locking their stuff in the temp ones).
Overall I think the price you pay is most definitely worth it and negates any cons. I'd personally recommend the cheapest if you're trying to maximized savingsbor the most premium membership if you like classes and amenities (as well as bring a buddy). The mid tier one is in an awkward price point since the Crunch locations are a bit spaced out in CLT, but hey if you happen to travel often to a place that has another crunch here's an option for that situation. I'm saving a ton of money and getting a pretty good workout with little compromise. I'm OK with the 17 ish minute drive to get here, but if you live in Steele Creek, I'd sign up here with zero hesitation. If you like lifting heavy or like saving money, and don't mind crowds, this is the...
Read moreI joined as a founder of this gym back in June, myself and my wife were excited and when opening week came we had great experiences. The staff were cordial and welcoming, but unfortunately on August 8th we had to inform them that we would have to leave the gym. They informed us that we would have to either cancel in September because there is a 90 day clause from the gym opening or pay a 50 dollar fee in order to cancel. We had to make the decision quick due to timing and decided to pay the 50 dollar fee. I was assured that I would not be charged again and that this would be the end of our membership after the 21st of August by Shawn M. My wife reiterated that question because of the things she had read about on Reddit with this company continuing to charge people after they cancelled.
Well august 29th rolls around and we are out of state. Two charges for 87.25 appear on my credit card. I call up crunch and the young lady states that she knows what happened, apparently now this wasnât a cancelation fee (even though we reiterated to two separate employees that if we pay that 50 dollars we would be canceling the memberships) but that it is a cancellation request and that corporate denied it. Never received any information, phone call, email, etc⌠stating this new found information. I ask her what we are going to do about this and she says she will send an email to the regional vice presidentâŚ. I ask her if they will reach out to me and she says she doesnât knowâŚ. I ask if I can get the number or email to them, she again says no⌠I ask to be CCed on the email and she says she doesnât feel comfortable because it is her personal email⌠( what corporation uses personal emails for correspondence?) so I ask what I am supposed to do next then if I have nothing to stand on? I told her do I need to cancel my cards and my bank account since they have this on file? She says donât do it until the 22nd of next month because I might get refunded by the regional vice president, and says that if I havenât heard anything by August 18th or so to âkill my bank accounts.â All in all this place is scammy and already leaning in to terrible business practices. If she would have just said it was a mistake and that she will look in to it and get back to me by weekâs end, I wouldnât have resorted to all of this. Unfortunately thatâs not the way they...
