I've been a member at different gyms across the east coast, and Oro has been my favorite hands down. It's not just the facility that makes it great, but the ownership and team.
I moved from Virginia last year and was looking for a gym that wasn't intimidating or full of themselves. You know, the gyms where members are so intense you don't feel like you'll fit in unless you already compete or are a full time Instagram model.
I first stumbled upon Oro through an Instagram ad announcing their upcoming grand opening and decided to take a look. It didn't take long for me sign up for updates and later become a founding member after seeing consistent videos of their progress.
While Oro definitely has some great athletes in peak shape, the community that Nick and team have built exudes kindness and encouragement. At no point did I, or do I, ever feel judged. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted at the desk by a genuine smile. One where the second time they see you, they know you by name.
While the facility is by no means large (compared to where I've been in other states, I didn't care to explore other gyms in Charlotte after finding Oro), it has everything you need. Multiple squat racks and benches. All the dumbbells your heart could desire, and mirrors, mirrors for miles. There is also a turf area and a room with boxing bags. Something missing? Tell the owner Nick, and he will genuinely look into the feasibility of adding it (shoutout to adding the EZ curl bar!).
The last thing I want to mention is Nick. With many gyms, it isn't hard to tell whether the business will succeed or ultimately fail after speaking with the ownership. In the case of Nick, his passion, excitement, kindness, expertise, and GENUINE CARE for others is a clear indication that Oro Athletic will become a staple in the Charlotte fitness scene and beyond for a very long time.
I encourage those looking to make a breakthrough in their fitness journey, or those simply looking to get started, to reach out to Nick. And if you're just exploring, check out Oro's Instagram story to see a glimpse of the magic going on.
I feel very blessed to have found this gym, and to have made a friend in Nick. Come swing by Oro and check out my, and what may soon be your,...
Read moreI signed up for ORO before they released their first photos and without knowing what was going to be included. I signed up for ORO because I had been invited to a handful of Nick/Allie’s workouts before and had never felt so welcomed and included by others in a gym setting. Been going to commercial gyms for years and while I became a regular at other gyms, Oro instantly surpassed. Not only did the gym equipment far exceed my expectations, the whole setup was careful thought through by the team. Never had I touched a brand new barbell that still had the manufacturers oil on it.
From free weights, to boxing, to my favorite area of the turf or what we call our adult playground. Energy is high from 5am to closing with an awesome Spotify Playlist and to friendly staff at the door who always somehow remember your name. The stock the front with pre-workout/protein that I usually would buy from amazon but with them always having new flavors and different supplements, it’s even more convenient to pick it up right there.
The area is spacious and always clean where I can get a full lift in without having to constant tap someone on the shoulder and ask “how many sets you got left”.
Gym challenges to sitting down in a circle and sharing your highs and lows of the week, the gym is community over all else. Nick is a super connector, almost every time I’m there Nick is introducing me to a new member and he’ll join you on his 15th workout of the day so he can lift with you.
The small group training is key as you get almost 1:1 attention with a competitive environment. Every month they create a thoughtful new challenge from PullUps, Mental Year Goal Setting, to a Combine/Olympics style team lift. Emma hosted an all girls lift, and Nick even allows members to lead and host catered community focused events at the gym.
A 10/10 recommendation to check out ORO, join the family, and awaken that inner athlete.

Read moreShort Story: Oro Athletic is hands down the absolute BEST gym in the Charlotte & surrounding areas. You will absolutely LOVE everything about it from the first time you step through the door.
Long Story: Nick & Allie literally thought about EVERYTHING when putting this gym together. From cardio machines, med balls, strength machines, TRXs, dumbbells, sled, heavy bags and my personal favorite - kettlebells - and everything in between - they have it ALL!!! They also go up to HEAVY weights on the dumbbells AND kettlebells. You can even run sprints in the expansive parking lot outside (plenty of parking, too)! I absolutely LOVE the open gym concept, because that means I can get a workout in whenever it's convenient for me (they're open 7 days a week!). They also have small group sessions for both strength and boxing, along with one-on-one personal training options. The cherry on top is that there is truly an unmatched sense of COMMUNITY from literally everyone - Nick & Allie, front desk staff, trainers, and any and every member of the gym. And oh yeah, I almost forgot - their membership rates are SUPER reasonable.
All fitness levels are truly welcomed with open arms and encouraged - they will 100% meet every member wherever they are at in their journey, no matter their fitness level and truly have something for EVERYONE - whether it be day one of your fitness journey or if you're a seasoned pro.
Just go ahead and sign up - you literally won't regret it for even a milli-second (first workout is also always FREE!). It will hands down be one of the BEST decisions you have made for yourself!!! I hope to see YOU...
