We were visiting Charlotte for the week of September 3rd through 8th and found Wing Haven during an internet search. My wife is an avid bird watcher and certified master gardener in Maryland. We visited the gardens on a Wednesday and were pleasantly surprised to see we were the only other people there. What luck! The young lady who greeted us was courteous and friendly, and showed us the way into the gardens for our self guided tour. Apparently here in North Carolina there are very few flowers in bloom in September as they were far and few. Definitely nothing like the web site indicated. There were however quite a few birds such as robins, cardinals, squirrels, chipmunks and even a hummingbird at a feeder. The Children’s play garden area was closed for reconstruction as was the frog pond area and quite a few walking paths. In general, we completed the self guided tour in under 20 minutes and it was quite disappointing. Perhaps it would have been better to tour in the spring when the flowers and birds were more active, and the construction was...
Read moreThis is a cute little place to visit. The fee is $10 per person and they take credit card or cash. We were greeted by a lovely lady and she told us about the gardens.
We received our map and started out exploring. We did not see too many flowers or birds at the time we went, but the place is beautiful and peaceful. There are benches along the path to sit if you need to.
A few things to note: I use a cane and the pavement bricks are uneven in certain places and since it had rained earlier, it was very slick. Also, it would really not be good for walkers or wheelchairs in my opinion. There are 3 steps to get into the house with handrails. I am sure if you let them know they can let you in the side gate, so you do not have to walk the steps.
A nice place to visit if you are in Charlotte and have...
Read moreWe went about trying to reserve this space for a baby shower - that turned into a horrible planning experience. After almost 2 weeks from our initial inquiry - my assistant finally got in contact with Beth. From there we were quoted reservation amounts that were nowhere near what we were asking for (we asked for a half day, she disregarded this numerous times and kept quoting for a full day). On top of that - what is written on their website is NOT the reservation plan they go by. Beth's quote had numerous add on's and rules that are not cited on their website. You are also REQUIRED to have a caterer. All we wanted was a simple space to celebrate a BABY, not plan a 4 course wedding ceremony. Not easy to work with and...
