I am not a local, but my mother is and I’ve been going to Chincoteague for over 40 years. Ponytails has always been my favorite store....their yummy fudge, peanut butter taffy, and array of unique souvenirs always drew me back. I understand our world has changed and safety should be everyone’s concern and #1 priority. I whole-heartedly agree with wearing a mask and even appreciate the hand sanitizer before we walked in the store. I don’t fault the manager for doing her job. What upset me was the way she did it. I always told my kids, “it’s not always what you say, it’s how you say it”. She was very nasty to my son-in-law....so much that I felt the need to say something, and believe me, I’m not one to do that. I also caught her taking our picture as we stood in line to pay for our merchandise. I did accuse her of being nasty to them the day before as well, because they thought it was the same lady....I apologize for that. It was a case of mistaken identity. It’s hard to identify someone when you can barely see their face. They were in there the day before and had issues getting the exact change, so my 15 year old son had to borrow change from my nephew and it took a few minutes. My daughter was waiting for him, and someone told her she had to leave if she wasn’t buying anything. Anyway, the manager is the one that raised her voice and told us to leave. We had already paid and were leaving. We never refused to leave. She said she was calling the police, and I told her I would wait for them outside, and I did. The policemen were amazing...super cool and nice. When the officer came out and told us we were all banned from the store FOR LIFE, it broke my heart....2 of my family members (mom included) weren’t even In the store when...
Read moreI've been coming to Pony Tails for a while and always make sure to stop here before I go home. Why? The candy and so much more. I fell in love at first with the dark chocolate that they sell by the piece. I do wish they had the graham crackers covered in dark chocolate back but last time I stopped they were not selling them as of spring 2017. They could have been out but there wasn't even a sign or a space I hope they come back they are awesome if you see them! I adore the dark chocolate coconut pieces and omg the dark chocolate caramel is terrific. It comes with and without salt. I get both. They have dark chocolate covered Marshmallows that I think kids would enjoy texture wise and it's sweet.
The thing you must get is the Fishers Carmel fresh popped popcorn. Darn this stuff is addicting. Three 30 year olds trying you watch our weight ate half a tub in one day, really..... in about 2 hours. Maybe if you have teeth problems pass on this. But if you can eat this and don't have sugar or corn etc sensitivities GO for it!
This store also has a lot of very cute things that make great gifts and things for your home. I bought shells here. Some huge puffy sand dollars. Yes I could buy them online but it's nicer to pick them out in person and much better to SUPPORT the local people and their economy on the island.
If you are looking to get a HORSE STUFFED ANIMAL this is the best place I can think of that I've seen and other stuffed animals. They have a STUFFED ANIMAL WALL. Horses, sea creatures, all sorts of things.
They have some jewelry,...
Read moreMost of the staff while visiting this store was very helpful and polite. However, one “general manager” in particular just needs to work on her customer service skills. It’s very funny how when you try to address an issue to a manager they can say they were “verbally attacked”. The mask in the store was not the issue. As we were asked ONCE to fix the mask, NOT 4 times. So I don’t know where the 4 times in 2 days comes from? The issue the previous day had NOTHING to do with the mask. Again, just happened to be an issue with how this establishments employees speak to customers. NOTHING to do with the mask. But, we weren’t allowed to express that issue to the general manager because she was already calling the police. We stated that we would be patiently waiting outside. We were given our citations by the very friendly police department, when we were also informed that we weren’t the only customers she has called the cops on before, and that in fact this was a pretty typical call for them from this manager.
Did we intially say that she was the same woman from the previous day? We did. It’s hard to tell some people apart with the masks that are required. I also, did apologize for that. But, did say if it wasn’t her then it should at least be brought to her attention because she is after all a manager.
I’d love to say that I’d continue being a patron of this establishment, but that’s no longer an option. My business will have to be taken else where, as well as my recommendations for a great shopping experience for others...
