Whoever is in charge of this place needs to be fired lol.
I remember really enjoying the gift shop when I was a kid, but now as soon as you walk in you're greeted by... offices. On both sides, where nobody ever seems to be in them. They're not even particularly well-organized, you just have a straight view of people's desks and computers through floor-to-ceiling windows that are sometimes covered by curtains.
They also used to have cuttings and propagations on sale from some of their plants in the conservatory at various points in the year but it seems like I never see those anymore.
The gift shop for some dumb reason is now all the way back in the Bonsai house, tucked in a corner where most people don't seem to go. It's always stocked very sparsely with useless junk. The last time I was there there wasn't even a staff member in the store.
The shows, too, seem like they've gone very downhill. I recently went to the Christmas one celebrating the winter solstice and literally all they did was put up some string lights in the main hall. They didn't even have the main entrance decorated like they usually do. There was no enormous christmas tree with lights and ornaments. It was cute, don't get me wrong, but they have the same kind of weird looking wooden carvings they've had for the last 30 years. Same train sets too, same everything.
Would be nice if we could try something different or a little fresh in this place! Maybe an expansion to add a new wing? And put the gift shop back...
