The place is great to a point, the staff think that they can yell, take or accuse certain tenants/residents there, oh yes they do take property out of the rooms when resident not in the room, or at an activity or event, including family bought hangers, other than that there was a staff member running the front desk, she told us it was being closed at 8 PM when it says 8:30 PM so people can get out before going to the side door to exit the building; I know that the courtyard is only open when the weather is nice, for residence, that doesn't always happen, it could be a nice day and get told not enough staff to bring them outside. More about the building food from the kitchen is known & ran by diettitions and small portions are given, some don't get much unless they ordered outside food, or the occasional luncheons, or if after staff meetings they are offered leftovers before being tossed out, some are even given coffee or hot chocolate or if aide (certain aides) will say it's on their meal ticket when it's not. Events, sometimes like above for the courtyard, staff is in a hurry to leave then tell them (residents) to check their calendars, only known Wednesdays are the longer days and most don't always go with dinner times, by the way they have a very nice speaker system there they say it doesn't work, it those round 70/80s style speakers they should get them working again. Physical Therapy, they get the most say one person does standout as controlling he stripped a resident of his linen including his undergarment or (briefs) he got got from an aide in his room, that doesn't seem nice at all, they them independant and they take stuff away. Those empty rooms on the first and fourth & B floors should be opened that is a negative view, or any rooms that would make the building look more as being used not filed in with offices. I was there during the James Square operations, the outside lights if I didn't mention a lot of them are broken or not present and/or covered with trees. The security cameras I know those were mentioned above, they are connected not unhooked they do work that doesn't sound safe at all. Outings, there should be more outings for those who can manage not a set day it should be outings to The NYSF Grounds or the malls even if someone has to go. Cellphones, should be not used during working hours, I can see those with kids trying to get them to school on time by video calls, I almost forgot staff keeps slamming the stairway doors at all hours of the morning, that should be quiet for residents sleeping. Laundry services, people often say that clothing is lost stolen or placed back into the wrong room or closet, it clothing needs to be tagged in the room, don't say it can't be done that would save time and less loss of clothing, the other thing that should be done only if it is requested and the requester is in the room & look through clothing to verify if it's really the right persons clothing, for us that what we found out, someone put a pair of pants (lost the bandana) into the wrong closet, how did we know for sure the resident we know passed away in those pants before residing here at this residence of Bishop, he was brought back to life to those reading this. We aren't saying the place is bad if a loved on is residing here and lost their money from SSI or retirement or can't return to a prior residence or said residence is evicting you, that the social workers job, what does a resident do if money isn't available, let a social worker lose property I would hope not, do the job and get them back home, not holding them longer, we know a resident who has this issue, he was supposed to discharged on a Friday Halloween, nope he is still there losing his property after a social worker said it was his job to make calls, not true the social worker is supposed to make the calls to these places to stop evictions or get into a new residence, if sending a family member here make sure the social worker is doing their job. If I could give no stars I would !!!!! UPDATE !!! If you have options to where to send your loved one pls do NOT send them here ! They will not respond to your phone calls , they will not follow up on your complaints, they will not inform you when your loved one is sick or hurt . Those people who are making positive reviews your either friends or your a rarity . If you do a walk through the lobby and therapy department is nice once you hit the 2,3 or 4th floor in the building that same building it’s a whole new experience. They hired unlicensed social workers who knew nothing about being a social worker. Now they have one licensed social worker but she still does nothing . If you’re a family member and you make complaints follow up via email document everything!! Make sure you complete a grievance form make copies . Know your patient rights even though they don’t follow them ! Report to the health department, take pictures or your family member if something is wrong make sure you review their medical records that’s the only way you will know what’s going on. Keep an outside primary care doctor to ensure they get the proper care. If they tell you something isn’t happening believe them !! They have sticky mice traps in the patient rooms they have mice running around , roaches and bed bugs . No working call bells !!! I have been trying to get help from a social worker for years !! I’m not a bitter family member I’m a concerned daughter, I’m a patient advocate and I’m confused to how this is happening! If you are looking to send anyone breathing here don't!!! I wouldn't send a corpse here they might lose it!! My mother has been admitted in the hospital seven times in the past two yr . Aspiration pneumonia , Urinary tract infection, poly pharmacy . They convert people to long term care They become your payee They provide no oral care The food is below substandard Cell phones come up missing Clothes disappear No disinfectant or cleaning supplies used on equipment No licensed social workers except one No working call bell system This is just the basis of what isn’t happening

The team looking after my mother in a difficult and never seen before medical condition has been amazing during this difficult time. A few names to highlight are Shelby, one of the administrators. She has been phenomenal. A true professional with empathy. Fantastia, the head nurse has also been amazing and empathetic. Dr. Evans and Teri Levine hade also been in constant communication with me but this area where we live doesn’t have what my mother needs and local hospitals want nothing to do with her brain condition. It’s inhumane of them. She’s only 68 and this is tragic for our family. Nikki, one of the aides along with nurses (there are some who really shine with my mom and I can’t remember their names right now) right down to Jonah at the front desk who is always smiling and friendly… I appreciate all of them during this horrific time for my mom. Yolanda has a huge heart too. When my mom is able to go home, we will miss this team of stakeholders looking after her; life is sacred and my family and I hope she makes it home. Thank you to everyone who has touched my mom’s life positively and empathetically. I bring donuts weekly. The picture of my mom with her granddaughter, my niece is before this tragedy happened around Christmas and was taken on 10/28/23. And whoever lost her clothes, I have some special comments for you. Be imaginative.

My sister was a patient at this facility for nearly a year. I visited her once last January but was unable to return due to the pandemic. I did however call and talk to her on the phone almost weekly. On December 29th I called at 4pm and was transferred to her floor where a staff member told me she was "resting and I should call back later" after asking me if I was family. I called again at 4:30pm and was again told she was "resting". I decided to give my sister a little more time to "rest" and called again at 6pm. I was again told she was "resting" and asked if I was family. During this brief conversation I overheard a staff member say "it's her brother and he just keeps calling". I proceeded to ask when dinner would be served and if they would be waking her to eat. I was told that they would and that I should call again in a half hour. I called at 6:30pm as instructed, only to be told she was still "resting"! At this point I asked to speak to the nurse on the floor, who proceeded to get on the phone only to reiterate that my sister was "resting". I called again at 7 and was given the standard "she's resting" answer. I tried one last time, hoping for the best, at 8pm but this time no one on the floor answered. I called the following morning at 9am only to be told by the staff member who answered, "oh the family didn't contact you? She died this morning"! I understand the constraints of privacy laws, but where do they begin and human decency end? I phoned my sister's "Social worker" on the 29th as well. She returned my phone call at 10:30am on the 30th and told me "I can't be here 24 hours!" when asked why I was not notified by her as promised about my sister's death. I also made a call to the Administrator and was transferred to his Administrative Assistant who told me he would be in meetings during the day but the nursing supervisor or a member of the nursing staff would be in contact with me later that day. I haven't heard from anyone from the Bishop again. I understand the need for no visitors during the pandemic, but I cannot for the life of me understand how the staff in this facility can be so cold, uncaring, unprofessional and downright cruel - not only to the patients under their care but to the patient's families as well. No one deserves to be treated this way. Obviously the staff are not trained in how to deal with delicate matters regarding their patients care or family members' questions and feelings. There should be a policy in place and every staff member should know how to handle these situations or who in the administration to contact in the event of more difficult and sensitive situations. This was a poor, cold, heartless and cruel example of just how incompetent the staff and administration at the Bishop are and I can't help but to wonder what else they consistently drop the ball on when it comes to the care of their patients. Shame on...

Hello Bishop Team -

My name is Laurie, and I'm writing to you regarding my mother Linda who was a patient there between Feb 1 - March 12 of this year. My mother was on the first floor of 1 South for rehabilitation as she suffered a stroke. First I would like to begin by saying your nursing staff is phenomenal. I like to give credit where it is due, and that staff on 1 South is extremely caring, helpful and go above and beyond. Also the PT and OT staff were amazing to my mother.

My dissatisfaction stems from one of your social workers, James who took over my mothers case for Jennifer. We were very pleased with Jennifer, however she had an unfortunate accident and was taken off my mothers case. James then took over. James was very lackadaisical and dropped the ball several times, leaving me to do his job during an already stressful time for me and my family. However, where James really left us frustrated was during my mothers discharge. He was in charge of setting up at home PT/OT for my mother. We were unaware that any companies he offered to us would have to come in and evaluate my mother while she was still at Bishop. Unfortunately he waited in the very 11th hour on the day of my mothers discharge to set up PT. At this point, we were only given one choice but to go with HCR who could come to my mothers home, as the other company's could not see her as she was being discharged from Bishop. It has now been one week and one day since my mother has been discharged and we are still waiting for HCR to come in and set up PT/OT times. My mother had a stroke, and I understand every single day is critical for her recovery, and every day that HCR has not come in, is wasting precious time. As I noted earlier, because of James' lack of attention and waiting until the 11th hour to set up this appointment, we missed out on other PT/homecare company's that would be more attentive. I've since reached out to James and he merely told me to "reach out to HCR myself", which I have done numerous time and have not gotten a straight answer from anyone. I work full-time, and also have to take care of my mother and this has added another layer of stress for me and my mother. James exhibits such a lack of care, of concern or empathy. In my opinion after working with him, James does not deserve a role as social worker. He does not exhibit the skill set to handle such a role. He is dealing with people in great need and clearly he does not...
