Unfortunately I had a bad experience at this hotel, got sick and had to leave and when I tried to contact the Manager about it I never got any response. Do not stay here if you are sensitive to cheap chemicals and toxic perfumes or if you want a quiet room and go to bed before 12:00 am.
I was in town for work and my company booked this hotel. I was supposed to stay for 10 days and by first appearances the hotel didn’t seem too bad. It definitely was old but had a facelift so the decor was decent. The first thing I noticed was the intense amount of perfume in the lobby area. It was not as bad in the room but after room service came and the room was full of chemical smells, I left the “do not disturb” sign on the door so they would not come back in. They have a few event venues on the first floor and you can hear the music pumping everywhere in the hotel.
We were on the second floor near the back but it was still pretty loud. I can only imagine the folks on the lower level! It did stop about 12:00am so if you don’t go to bed early that may be fine for you.
I also needed the WiFi just to upload some reports each night and the normal WiFi was not working on the computer. When I went to the front desk the girl told me the WiFi only worked for cell phones. I have never heard of that before and when asked who was their provider she didn’t know. She said she honestly didn’t know anything about computers and did not have anyone she could call to help me. I spoke with someone else in the morning and they did not know how to handle it either. I found a supervisor the next day and she gave me a different WiFi and password which did work.
The real issue and why I got sick was the chemicals and perfumes they sprayed through-out the hotel. I have not had a cold or any sickness in over 2 years and after a few days it hit me. My throat got sore, nose stuffed, eyes bothering me etc. I couldn’t walk through the lobby without putting something over my face just to get outside so I could breathe. I will say, I don’t use perfumes or overly scented products so I am not used to all of that. The desk staff couldn’t even smell what I was taking about since they had gotten numb to it. After a few days I had to switch hotels. It took a few phone calls but they did refund the remaining amount although they almost charged me a service fee for days I was not there but did manage to give that back as well.
Once we moved to a Hampton Inn I was fine. It took about 3 days to get over everything and the rest of my stay over there was no issue. They used a bit of scent in their cleaning products but nothing like what was happening in The Royal Regency Hotel. I called the Manager of The Royal Regency Hotel to let them know what happened and that they should perhaps look into what they are using in their hotel because clearly it is toxic at least for some people. I didn’t want anything except for them to take a look into this. I left a few messages and never got a return call. I was working 12 hours a day and did not have much time to continue to chase them up.
Customer service and care for their patrons is clearly lacking. I would never stay there again and if you are at all sensitive to chemicals or perfumes, stay far away. I rarely leave a bad review and I gave them several chances to at least speak to me and acknowledge what happened as well as look into what toxic chemicals they are...
Read moreI just came from spending one night in Royal Regency Hotel. I must say that, as the name of the hotel alludes to it, I received royalty welcome! This said, there are things that I truly think need serious improvement.
I must say I made the right decision to read the negative reviews before I checked in. Doing so helped me to make a careful assessment of the hotel.
I went in expecting that the hotel would be a noisy place on the weekends, as the place is famous for hosting special events. I stayed there on a Friday, and the atmosphere was very quiet and peaceful.
I tend to agree with those who complained about the unwelcoming attitude of the receptionists. When I entered the hotel, I went directly to the Hertz desk and nobody offered to help. Perhaps a sign saying "reception desk is on the first floor" would direct guests better.
While I am at the welcome item, I must say that the female receptionists could benefit from courtesy/hospitality training. I did not find them very friendly or warm acting. Still it seemed to me that the management had improved on that point, as there was a regular presence of an assistant manager (of the kindest kind).
I must stress the outstanding hospitality qualities I saw in one of the assistant managers who goes by the first name of Daniel. He made my stay at Royal regency UNFORGETTABLE.
The other aspect that needs serious improvement is the breakfast service. A popular place like Royal Regency should have enough staff in the breakfast area. I felt sorry when the sole staffer was being pulled to all directions by not so enthused guests. I felt that their frustration was misderected; they should have gone to complain to the front desk.
This said, I was not very pleased that I had to wait for coffee for more than twenty minutes, and water for ten more minutes.
I totally disagree with those who assessed the breakfast quality as horrible. I found it rather healthy and generous.
Finally, I must address the cleanliness aspect. I was lucky to be given a tour of the rooms due to the negative experience I had with the first room assignment. Due to the UN General assembly all renovated rooms were booked. Those of us who went through the online third parties were allocated the rooms in the section under construction! I am sorry to say the conditions in some of the rooms were deplorable. Thank goodness the management was aware of it an was ready to perform damage control. The credit here goes to Daniel.
My recommendations are as follows:
Please instruct the check in staff to warn the guests ahead of time that the left wing is under renovation and that the appearance might not be as inviting as you are trying to get it to be.
Make sure that the equipment in all the rooms is in good condition before you allocate a room to a guest.
Finally, please put an envelope for a housekeeper's gratuity on top of the welcome binder, especially in the amazing royal suites.
Based on the courtesy that was extended to me, I would definitely recommend Royal regency Hotel to a friend, with a...
Read moreI would like to begin writing this by expressing how UPSET I am with this company as a whole. After visiting New York City this weekend, I can’t express how bad of a trip I had thanks to Royal Regency Hotel. Let me begin by starting my story. I purchased my two night stay from Saturday- Monday hoping I would have a great Martin Luther King Weekend through Hotel Tonight on Thursday January 11, 2018. My funds were withdrawn day of when I purchased the ticket. It is not Saturday and I am excited to head to New York City. I have a 5 hour drive since traffic is crazy so I decide to leave at night to avoid it all. When I arrive to Yonkers, after getting lost multiple times I finally find the hotel where the GPS did not even know where it was. It is between 3am – 5 am as I approach the front desk and ask the guy working I am here to check in. First, he looks at me like I am crazy as if I didn’t belong there and second his first statement was “We are completely booked” …. I quickly responded, like no buddy I have a room paid and reserve since Thursday. I told him I was on my way from PA and notify someone I was coming late, that person began with the letter “M”. Anyways he kept making it clear that there was no room’s available and there was nothing he can do. I was getting furious and told him I better get a room since I paid for an entire weekend and that room should be there waiting for me. He kept stating that no managers were on scene and there policy had a Check IN time…. This made NO DAMN SENSE. I have a room reserved through the weekend and my room is given to someone so that the hotel can make more money!
The customer service throughout the night was HORRIBLE. I was kept being told there was nothing to do and for me to call Hotel Tonight. I then called them and they reached out to the hotel. Hotel Tonight and the hotel could not do anything for me. THERE WAS NO POLICY WRITTEN ANYWHERE IN THE HOTEL. They kept saying, there is no policy but that’s the rule. I want someone to respond to me as I will want to take legal actions for being stranded, having to sleep in my car that night and paying for something that hotel said I was not going to get a refund for. This hotel is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL and I would like for this hotel to make it up because I did not deserve this.
*I also have everything recorded if management wishes...
