With only an hour to tour the premises, I did not have nearly enough time to get properly acquainted with Oklahoma’s favorite son on a Monday afternoon in June (the day after Father’s Day, for the record). I did take the time to watch his roping skills in the silent film; how impressive he was at it! The unfortunate part of my experience and the only reason that I would not give it a five star rating is that when I stopped into the gift shop at 5 minutes before closing, we were greeted with this: “Jesus Christ!! I’m supposed to leave here in three minutes, so you’ve got THREE MINUTES!” The woman working the gift shop was so incredibly rude that I turned and walked out, not buying the advertised “Will Rogers for President” gift pack of which I had seen flyers for throughout the museum. I was very taken aback by her lack of hospitality and extreme rudeness, cursing Jesus Christ. She literally rolled her eyes as she was saying it, also. While I won’t hold that against Will, it was very off-putting to me on not only my first visit to the museum, but on my first visit to Oklahoma, as a whole. Honestly, it made me feel embarrassed that I wanted to buy the yard sign and was so excited to learn about an early twentieth century celebrity. With that being said, I would like to go back, but that exchange turned a 5 star experience into a 3 starred one. At least the lady at the front desk was wonderfully accommodating and full of good...
Read moreThis was our first visit here, and the staff were very cordial and knowledgeable regarding Will Rogers. There is a price of admission, but you'll get your money's worth. Kudos to Andy for giving us an initial introduction of the legendary Will Rogers as we stepped into the main foyer to begin our journey back in time. There were several niches and larger, cavernous rooms that held a multitude of paintings, videos and memorabilia. Several locations had a QR Code emblazoned on the wall beside each area to play audio detailing that particular area. So make sure you download a QR Code reader app on your smartphone. There is also a kids area with activities such as playing dress-up, building with the classic Lincoln Logs, and more, Unfortunately the kids area is a few small flights downstairs with lower-than-normal handrails, so if you have mobility issues it may be an issue. The gift shop had a wide range of items - ranging from Will Rogers movies, books, and the usual Route 66 fare. The woman operating the gift shop was also quite savvy in all things Will Rogers.
Overall I would highly recommend this museum. Be sure to visit Hammett House restaurant down the road to enjoy a great meal, but that's...
Read moreWhile visiting Oklahoma we spent the night in Claremore. Friends of ours suggested we visit the Will Roger Museum. Before stepping into the museum I thought I knew “OF” Will Rogers, but after spending the time to really go thru the museum I came out with a whole new appreciation of this man and his family! He was a very simple man but also a very brave man. He knew what was really important in life-God-Family-Country! He spoke up for the people in this country! He was not a giant of a man but his words resonated with everyone that listened to him. He used the media to spread his “ Common sense” thinking! This museum should be a must visit for every student and young adult that has not had the pleasure of knowing this man. It should be a must for all of the rest of us that thought we knew of him! I took over a hundred pictures and could have taken more. Since I have been home I have reviewed these pictures an have really enjoyed reviewing that museum trip. Please don’t pass up this museum it really is a gem. My only complaint the gift shop needs some remodeling and design, I went in and wanted to purchase souvenirs but could not find ...
