We haven't visited Hammett House in years due to moving out of state. I got to wondering if they were still around. I remember how good their food was. Of course I Googled them and they were still going strong. That's I down, now if they are still as good as they were back in the day. It was in the late 70's the last time I was there and I had Prime Rib, it was fantastic. So, on a Saturday we drove from west of Tulsa to Claremore, OK. It was about 40 miles one way, we pulled up and they are still in the original building. That's when you start to think you may get some really good food. Once in the door, you see those beautiful pies, those big mile high pies. Oh my, I felt I had never left. They seated us and our servers name was, Hunter. Now half of your meal experience can be your servers attitude. Hunter made it a full 100% plus that night. He was as personable and sincere as any of the best servers around. Thank you Hunter. Also, just a side note, he's getting ready to start electricians school. He's got a great head on his shoulders. Also, I'm an old electrician and I believe he will do very well. Now for the meal part, my wife ordered Ribeye and baked potato. I asked if they still have their Prime Rib, I almost had a big let down when Hunter said that it was a special one night a week. But the stars must of aligned that night, because the one night a week was Saturday, YAY, I'm going to get my Prime Rib. So our friend and I ordered the Prime Rib and baked potato fully loaded. We also had the perfect blooming onion, cooked just right and wasn't the least bit greasy. Well, to be honest, it was still one of the best I've ever had. My wife's Rib Eye was cooked to perfection, which by the way, was her birthday and Hammett House didn't disappoint. Our friend and myself throughly enjoyed our Prime Rib, just as I remembered it. We had enough left for another meal the next night, and they have plenty of go boxes. For dessert, my wife had cheesecake, our friend had pecan and lemon and I had banana cake. There was no room for dessert, so more go boxes. We had it later that night and the pies were just as good as everything else there. They were the perfect ending to a perfect day. So if you haven't been there, you gotta try them. The people there have a great attitude and make you feel at home. And again, Thank you Hunter for a great evening, we will...
Read moreHammett House sure does serve up good country cookin. Highlights were the pork chop rib eye and the Amish meatloaf. And of course the pie!
Chili - 5/5 - fantastic meaty chili! Very yummy. Chicken matzo ball - 2/5 - sadly it was oversalted. Tone back the salt and would be great! Salad - 3/5 - I’m honestly mortified by the greenish-blue cilantro like dressing that obviously contains food coloring such that it’s no longer appetizing, but flavor was fine. Pork chop rib eye - 100/5 - one of the best pork dishes I’ve had in my LIFE. I could drown myself in the grilled onion gravy and die happy. Chicken fried chicken - 4/5 - love the batter they use to fry, nice and crispy. The chicken was a bit on the dry side and could have used a tad more salt (on the meat, not batter). Amish meatloaf - 5/5 - one of the best meatloafs I’ve had! So hearty, moist, and flavorful with a delicious sauce. The green beans were absolute perfection. Turkey fries - 2/5 - these were bizarre. I don’t know if they used ground turkey or what, but it was strangely gummy? And mostly just batter and little meat. If it was meat? They were just all wrong. PB choc chip pie - 4/5 - incredible and rich filling, so yummy and peanut-y. However I have to knock off a point for a really bad crust. Real bummer. Raisin sour cream pie - 3/5 - it was decent, but there wasn’t enough cream cheese base, and maybe this sounds crazy, but there were too many raisins?? I’d rather have 2 raisins in a bite as opposed to 5. Buttermilk chess pie - 4/5 - so rich and custardy with a lovely caramelization on top. Again, sadly have to drop a point due to meh crust. It seems their crust recipe is just downright bad.
Will definitely be back to try more of their extensive menu offerings...
Read moreApologies guys, this is going to be a long one because these guys were that good! To start our waitress Karli was fantastic. She was very attentive, friendly, and had solid recommendations. The GM Danny also stopped by our table and took the time to tell us a little bit of the history of Hammet House and talk shop about some of his favorite menu items. Needless to say the service was fantastic! The food may have been an even bigger surprise y'all. My wife and I decided to start with the trio sampler with mozz sticks, fried pickles, and fried green tomatoes. The batter was crunchy and flavorful, and the fry temp was perfect, so each item was fork tender. For our entree's we decided to get the hawaiin chicken and the fried catfish. The cornmeal batter on the catfish was excellent, crunchy with just a touch of heat. The catfish itself was flakey, moist, and wasn't fishy at all. The chicken paired very well with grilled pineapple which helped to add moisture and a bit of sweetness. Since this was our first time we also decided to grab dessert. Chocolate chip peanut butter pie, and the brownie delight skillet were our choices and boy did they deliver. Hammet House is well know for their pies and the peanut butter one slapped. It was silky smooth with a nice pop of peanut butter flavor that left you wanting more. The brownie delight skillet was the biggest surprise of all. Bathed in some amalgamation of caramel and possibly brandy? The brownie was crunchy on the edges and moist in the center. This dessert was rich so please be prepared to share! Over all Hammet House was a 10/10 for good country cooking that delivers some...
