WARNING Do NOT bring your cherished silver jewelry in for repair here - risk destruction.
I brought my 1908 Lady Liberty Barber Sterling Silver Dime Coin Ring into this shop to have the open band resized to fit for wear again. My father acquired the Art Nouveau ring for my 16th birthday. The face was artistically popped out to a full forward cameo in a skilled manner of hand-forged repousse done from the back; it was a rare piece. It’s band had become too small and opened up requiring repair so I kept it in jewelry box for at least a quarter century.
Having been at this jeweler before for change of insurance appraisals, noticed they displayed coins and did jewelry repair so I thought this would be the perfect place to do the repair. My father had since passed, I miss him very much, and his gifted ring reminded me of him.
When I return to pick it up I was shocked - it appeared to have been put in a vice grip that flattened Lady Liberty’s beautiful face into a machined square. Upon seeing the tear in my eye the nice lady who had originally taken the ring in said give them some more time and they’ll try to recreate the face. The man who fixed the band came out admitting he spray painted it a matt finish, and I thought who does that? It’s an antique coin and the woman tried telling me that it wasn’t a real coin - it was a real coin artfully repoussed. I left it with them to re-create Lady Liberty’s face.
I went back after they called to pick it up yesterday and worse. The coin’s reeded edge lines have been rubbed off, detail of the wheat on her hair and crown gone. Some of the letters are warped, deep gouges from some type of mechanical hold appear, the antique coin shading gone - spray painted all over one cheap tin color - a complete and utter abomination. They turned 100+ year antique ring from pristine mint condition stored properly for years into trash when hired to only repair the band.
Take pictures of original pieces that you take in for repair if you don’t trust how it was or take responsibility for damage you have done. I cannot wear this what sadly was made to appear as if just purchased at a 25 cent gum-ball machine - just awful. And they charged me for their distruction. This is utter incompetence by a business that is supposed to specialize in doing what I paid them to do. How is this business going to fix this when the their employees so rude that I don’t care to step foot in their store again?. This business needs to be accountable for their damage done. Please contact me to make arrangements to replace my destroyed ring or I will take it up with the Better Business Bureau. If they do the right thing I will take this review down but what an aggravating awful experience dealing with...
Read moreDO NOT purchase diamond rings here!!!!! This is the second time I had to come here. My husband bought my wedding ring here and I’ve had a total of four diamonds fall out of my ring so far. It is only 3 years old and I am completely disappointed. Went in to see since they made this ring in shop if it could be replaced. I also had a receipt. They say “well that’s the trouble with these rings, the diamonds fall out very easily.” You should advertise that when you sell them then. We are not rich people and it took a lot for my husband working hard to buy me something special at a high price. $1,200 might not be a lot to the owners or Mrs. G (the rude lady who didn’t even look me in my eyes but who talked through a different nice young lady to tell me the diamonds are cheep and it was an inexpensive ring) but to us working class it was. She was so rude I was a taken back. Somewhat comical how the nice young lady kept having to go to and from me and Mrs.G to give me messages, instead of just talking to me like a human and not a child. Hahahah. It’s 2021 you shouldn’t look down on people or make them feel “less than” because we look different or are unable to afford certain things. ANYWAYS DO NOT BUY FROM HERE! Now I’m stuck with a garbage ring from a garbage jewelry store. THaNKS FOR ALL THE HELP. I will be spreading the word. Would give ZERO stars if I could! Have a fantastic day to the worst rip off jewelry store I have yet...
Read moreDo not go here, especially if you are looking to sell gold. Yesterday, I went to sell 18k and 24k gold, and despite clearly asking them not to scratch my jewelry (which is used to test the gold), they ignored my request and scratched it anyway. When I questioned why they did this despite my request, they claimed that scratching was necessary to determine the gold price. I used to work in a gold shop, and this is nonsense. These people seem to want to steal gold powder.
Nowadays, it's possible to determine whether something is real gold or fake using machines, and it’s ridiculous that a gold shop would not have such equipment. They steal gold powder without permission and then offer only half the market price. They are outright scammers. If you need to trade gold, go to Tiah’s Coins and Currency. They operate with integrity, do not scratch your jewelry, and use machines to determine the price.
Honestly, I wouldn’t want to give even one star, but since I have to choose at least one, I’m giving it one...
