Had my wife’s wedding rings ”repaired here”. They had to be resized , the prongs had to have more gold added to keep the stones secure on her engagement ring, the details had eroded a bit on both rings. The wedding band and the engagement ring had antique and mill grain engravings we wanted to pop again, and there was a very small diamond missing from the wedding band. I hate that we were the exception and not the rule, as the results we received were very poor when others have had great work done here before. Her engagement ring details were restored beautifully, but the resizing of the ring somehow made the back of the band of that ring very curvy and the new gold they added broke, it cracked and snapped in the back and it wasn’t from any impact just everyday wear ( it’s 14k gold). The mill grain details were totally polished away on the wedding band when we went to pick up, after an attitude from them they asked us to let them fix that mistake and melt down and recast the ring and make a whole new band and we agreed. They clearly didn’t do that bc the band is very crooked exactly where the lost stone was. The gold goes in tight and skinny where they added the new stone. It cost us $500 for all the work and didn’t notice the curves until we got home, and the break in the back happened a couple months later. We just did decided to leave a review bc for the last year she’s been wearing a cheap Amazon set until we could decide to pay again to have her set fixed elsewhere or upgrade her as we’ve been married 15 yrs. Her first wedding set was gorgeous and very sentimental, but modest. We upgraded elsewhere, but wanted to share pictures and how sad we are that the engagement ring will eventually have to be fixed somewhere else, and the original wedding band replaced bc it’s just so badly done.. or melted down and recreated somewhere else.. probably cheaper to replace but we want it to be the original. We will restore the original set one day when we find a master very talented jeweler. We understand it needed repair, and that it may not be very easy to do so perfectly, however the results were still very poor. I would not recommend this shop for jewelry repairs. When you tell them something isn’t right they have an attitude and they will argue with you that it’s right. Which is why we felt discouraged and didn’t leave a review at first, we were considering showing them all this last year. I believe there is a warranty on their work up to a year.. and allowing a chance to get it right a second time but that just seemed too taxing and risky after all we went through with them. We honestly wish we went...
Read moreI took both a Movado and Relic watch in to have them serviced. The former needed a new battery while the latter simply needed to have a link put in. I brought it them to Main Street jewelers after running into dead ends at watch repair shops in Raleigh. Those other shops refused to put a battery in the Movado due to it being a high end watch. They retorted that they didn’t want to be held liable for damaging it hence they refused to service me. They instead said that I should d send it to the manufacturer. I resultantly stopped by Main Street jewelers following recommendations from others in the community. The associate was friendly and engaging from the minute that I stepped in the door. What I mean by that is that she immediately greeted me and offered service even though she was waiting on other customers. She took the watches back to the jeweler immediately after recanting the costs of repairs and my accepting the cost. She went back to help her other customers while also checking on my needs. She came back 10 minutes or so later in telling me that something else was wrong with my Movado because it still didn’t work after they placed a battery in it. She then asked if it ever worked prior to my bringing it in and I retorted that it was working up until the week prior. She then advised that the watch maker would be in on Thursday, December 15, 2022 and that she could have him take a look it when he came in. I feared the worst in that my beloved watch couldn’t be repaired or that it would cost an exorbitant amount to fix it. She then asked me if I wanted them to call me or text me when they were finished with the repairs. I told her that a text would be fine. She then handed me back my Relic watch and let me know that they didn’t charge me anything to put the extra link in. Moving along from there, they texted me as promised in telling me that my watch was ready for pickup. In doing so, they told me that the problem wasn’t so much that the battery needed to be replaced but that the coil had a scratch on it and it needed to be replaced. To that end they prefaced that the coil had likely drained the battery. They then replaced the coil and battery and it began to work like new again. What really sealed the deal was that they didn’t charge me for replacing the coil either. They only charged for the cost of the battery which was approximately $10. I’m so glad that I listened to the people in the community app because they were right. Main Street Jewelers has me as a customer for life and I’m willing to tell...
Read moreI just stopped by today to have a ring repaired, like I have in the past. I showed an older female employee my ring and proceeded to explain what I needed done. I’ve had my ring repaired there at least three times in the past 15 yrs. The last time I was there, a gentleman told me I would probably need to replace my prongs since they were wearing down. He said we don’t charge for this. In the pas, he previously recommended going from 4 prong to 6 prong since I wore my ring all the time and frequently bent the prongs, which I had him do for a minimal to no charge, I can’t exactly remember. The woman said they never do this and I must be mistaken. She looked at my ring and said the prongs were fine and she didn’t know why anyone would tell me differently. Well, I didn’t make this conversation up in my head. She said it would be $150.00 to replace my prongs. I said that they were the ones that put the 6 prongs on, don’t they guarantee their work? She said “no” and asked if we had a receipt. I said I did not have it, and asked if they have record of customer purchases… she said “no”. I have never been charged this much to have any of my jewelry repaired there in the past. I’ve been minimally charged to having no charge, their prices have always been very fair. We have made numerous purchases there over the past 20yrs, including diamond earrings for each of my daughters and multiple smaller items for many special occasions and I will never walk in this store again nor recommend anyone else to go there. I guess this small local business chooses to treat patrons like your big box stores, so there is not reason to go out of our way to ever support them again. I will look for another small local jeweler that appreciates...
