My washer decided it didn't want to spin or drain water. I called and asked the woman over the phone what the price range was (I knew it was either the switch or the belt. Looking at pricing on DIY sites I could pick up what I needed for around $20) She told me she couldn't give me the cost over the phone. I asked for a basic price range, and she was still not able to provide me with any figures whatsoever. (I had a different company called Low Cost Appliances repair my dryer last year for $60, so I figured it wouldn't be too expensive) They repair man came out the next day, and met with my mother-in-law who was home at the time. The service man opened the lid to the washer and said it was the switch - which would cost $119. (???) That is more than I paid for both my washer and dryer as a set 3 years ago. My mother-in-law called me at work to advise of the price, and I told her it was too much to pay for a used machine. She promptly called me right back and told me there was a $49 service charge for the guy to come out. I WAS NEVER ADVISED OF THIS when I called the previous day!! I called their office immediately and spoke with the girl who I originally spoke with. I told her that I felt it was not fair that I was not advised of the $49 service charge, and I wanted to to waive the fee since she didn't inform me the day before. She became very defensive, stating "Well, so just thought we were going to come out for free??" I said, "Well yeah , you never told me of a service charge, so how was I supposed to know?" So now I have to pay almost $50 bucks just to have some guy tell me what's wrong with the washer, and then leave? The female employee and I went back and fourth before she cursed me out and hung up the phone. These people are ridiculous, overpriced, and RUDE!
DO NOT CONSIDER BAY AREA APPLIANCE TO COME FIX...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI can't say enough about how great Bay Area Appliance is! I am a property manager and over the last few years they have made my life so much easier. I can literally call and ask Abigail if they can send a stove and refrigerator to a property and tell them my color choice and the next day it's delivered, installed, and warranted without me doing anything else but pay the always lowest price around. The few times (I can remember maybe only 2) there was an issue with an appliance they sent, the warranty was honored by either repairing or replacing it. On top of it all, they are completely honest when it comes to repairs. Example: I called in with a "dead" oven. Abigail suggested it was a heater element replacement needed, asked me the model number and said she had one in stock for less than $20. I picked it up, plugged it in a voila! It worked and we didnt need a service call. Regarding service calls, they are more than fair. Their repairman may not speak English well but he will let you know if it doesn't make sense to fix something and if it doesn't, he doesn't charge you. If buying a new or perfectly refurbished appliance is cheaper he won't gouge you to throw good money after bad. If you are looking for a oven/range, a refrigerator or whatever I highly recommend this company. I've been telling people how great they are for years but after today when they (once again) came through for me I thought it time to post a review for "the world" to see. Thanks again Bay...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had ordered a dryer from Home Depot for installation today. It had to be placed on a platform made by a carpenter to be above the washer. The same platform they installed the old dryer on 13 years ago.
HD refused to install it, they wanted to argue. The delivery dispatcher wanted to arge, the store staff wanted to argue. On the way home from HD I want to Bay Area Appliance. They had a very similar model from the same manufacturer and they offered a very good price with delivery. I wasn't sold a hose and cord as HD insisted on as I had those on the old dryer.
I had been without an dryer for a week waiting for HD to deliver it on a day I had off. I arranged delivery with Bay Area Appliance for 'in about 45 minutes'. I stopped for a Big Gulp and to hit the ATM at 7ELeven and they had arrived minutes before me.
The total savings was $193.00 from what HD charged.
I have learned a very valuable lesson, never buy appliances from HD (or any big box store) shop locally with a trusted merchant. You may not always get delivery in 45 minutes, I was quite lucky today, but you'll always get a better price, and competent...
