Design Furniture Outlet & Consignment — Attraction in Clearwater

Writing this to save someone else from getting burned. I entrusted them to sell my furniture which I bought brand new and was 14 months old. I paid $1,720. The deal is, whatever they sell your furniture for, you get half, they get half. It drops to 60% them and 40% you if the furniture is still there after 2 months. That's fine. I stopped in a week later to see if my furniture had sold. My chair and ottoman, wall art, and rug sold immediately. I paid $770 total for these. I received $160. Not thrilled, but I didn't discuss a minimum amount to sell my items, so I just accepted it. My sofa that pulls out into a full size bed was still on the floor and they had a $650 price tag on it. I paid $960, (tax included) so I would have been satisfied to receive $325. I stopped in a couple months later when I hadn't heard from them, and the sofa was gone. They say that they can't tell you what your furniture sold for until the bookkeeper writes the check. I get a call 2 weeks later that the check is ready. I show up, and they have a check awaiting me for $170. I spoke with the bookkeeper, and they said that they kept dropping the price, and then the customer asked for another $100 off, so that's why it was so low. There was literally no way for them to prove what they sold it for, so I just had to take their word for it. Bottom line, make sure you force them to agree to not go below a certain asking price. If I knew I'd end up with $330 total, I would have taken my furniture back and sold it on Facebook Marketplace. I originally had an offer on there for $500, but I was stupid enough not to accept it. The owner + staff were amazing - very helpful with the tour of the huge showroom. Upon pick up they were helpful in loading my purchases to my vehicle.

I've been shopping here for many years. They have the best selection of modern consignment furniture in the Tampa Bay area, including the latest comeback design craze, Memphis style. Price is a roll of the dice. I've seen things that I thought were pricey, but there are also unbelievable deals to be found. I once saw a designer sofa that I know retailed for over $10K for just under $2K. The salesperson knew the brand, but also knew what it would likely be worth on consignment.
