What a beautiful hidden historical gem! This free admission collection is housed in the Burke Lakefront Airport which harkens back to small local airports of old times. It is not for commercial jets, so is small and houses several aviation based businesses and organizations. It is situated along a beautiful lake view. The collection is arranged chronologically and highlights these pioneering women's lives both personally and professionally. There is a wonderful balance of admiration for their tenacity and acknowledgment of the privilege needed to attain their aviation goals. It is obvious that the exhibit was set up with accessibility in mind. The parking is plentiful and the entrance is an automatic door with no threshold. The displays are low enough to be seen from a wheelchair and there are buttons to speak and light up the displays. The only thing I was unable to say that others could was the control display of one of the flight simulators. The gift shop is within the offices of the two employees who were exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. This is a great place for those who need a quiet environment...

A small and cozy museum filled with some amazing facts and artifacts. Everyone always wants to go to the large and well-known museums. Don't get me wrong, they rock. But, small museums like this one is where it is at!
Free to the public, it is inside the Burke Lakefront Airport. You literally just walk right into this museum. The staff here is absolutely amazing and will answer any questions you have with a smile and lots of information. I had the pleasure of experiencing this museum first at a Yelp Elite event....but have been back several times since for a few public events.
Not only do you get to learn a lot about women in aerospace, you can watch the planes take off from the airport. Really, a great experience overall! Take your kids for a few hours and learn more about amazing women...
Read moreFree museum! Sort of. The museum is a large display area inside of the airport terminal itself. And while there are no tickets to purchase, if you parked your car in their very spacious parking lot then you will be paying a fee ($7 at the Time of this writing) to get out.
