Wade Memorial Chapel — Attraction in Cleveland

We were spending the week in Cleveland and several locals recommended a visit to Wade Chapel. We are cemetery fans so it was an easy decision. It did not disappoint. We were met by Diane, a docent, who started telling us about the artistic symbolism in the piece. But we had time so we spent the next 2 hours learning about the history, construction, politics, financing and subtle nuances of the chapel, window and mosaics. Even then, I felt like we were just getting started. Diane was fantastic!!

If you have anything from a few minutes to a few hours, this is a Midwestern heritage site that should not be missed.

An absolute jewlbox located in one of the most beautiful rural cemeteries in the world. Designed by legendary interior design firm Tiffany Studios, the chapel interior features exquisite mosaic tilework on every surface, with every part contributing to a single overall theme, a spectacular stained glass window.

If you're at all interested in the works of Louis Comfort Tiffany, then you must stop by this gorgeous chapel. The centerpiece, called The Journey of Souls is stunning, and the entire chapel is essentially a Tiffany art piece. Either side of the chapel is covered floor to ceiling in mother of pearl mosaics depicting the Old and New Testaments and they're stunning. They usually have a curator to explain different things and both times I've gone, they were very kind and knowledgeable.
