Unbelievably good! I've always been skeptical of gelato made here in the US. They never seem to get the flavor to that perfect balance of taste and creaminess. And then there's Rosso ! Started by an Italian Grandma and run by family, finally there's is a gelato, and sorbetto, that actually makes you close your eyes and truly savor the richly flavored confection with a well deserved "Mmmmm". This is the real deal, folks! And the depth of flavor is beyond description. For those who may be lactose intolerant, there is a large variety of flavors for the sorbetto (dairy free gelato) and for chocolate lovers I highly recommend the Nero. OMG!! Sampling before buying is encouraged, and you can even have multiple flavors put in your cup should you find yourself torn between flavors, (yes, there are many to choose from). Once you taste the sorbetto you won't believe it isn't a true gelato. It is just as good as it's cream-made counterpart. And if you think gelato is only for summer dessert, this is being written on a dank, windy, cold, March day where the drive to Rosso's in Rocky River, Ohio, was truly...
Read moreBackground: I love gelato and rarely waste any money on ice cream. In September, I returned from a trip that included Trieste, Italy, and Ljubljana, Slovenia, where I overindulged in gelato, Not surprisingly to my still somewhat novice tastes, the gelati I dearly enjoyed in Trieste were at least equal to any I've had in the States, including those I'd had at the Italian deli in my hometown.
Two weeks after that European trip, I prepared for a trip to visit mom in Elyria by "googling" 'Gelato + Cleveland"; I learned about Rosso's. So, when the opportunity came, I headed over to sample what Rosso serves. I went with my favorite, nocciola (aka hazelnut). Two small spoonfuls and I knew I'd return again and again (I try to visit mom 3 times each year). This gelato reminded me of my trip and of the gelati served in my hometown. The owner-proprietor, by the way, has a deep Italian connection: his father was from Trieste. I highly recommend Rosso's but I do caution all to go for the smaller sizes: Does not too much joy and pleasure lessen the quality of such tasty...
Read moreThe experience from beginning to end far exceeded my expectations! The location was absolutely gorgeous in a great shopping and restaraunt area! The store was well themed and decorated, incredibly clean, and the gelato and sorbet cases were looking immaculate! The workers were extremely kind and hardworking! They were offering as many tastes as you would like to make your educated decision. Even when i thought i knew what i wanted, the worker offered me to try new flavors and thats what i ended up ordering. I got the almond and hazelnuts in the small and my girlfriend got cookies n cream and straciatella, probably spelled that last one wrong, but all were incredibly fresh, creamy, and delicious! My girlfriend spent a lot of time in Italy and said this was on par with the gelato shops there. All in all, an incredible experience, wonderfully friendly staff, extremely delicious gelato and all for a good price for the great total package. I am very glad i made it and i will be back and make many...
