On 12/27/18, my dad provided a code from his INS that would ensure he would no longer be charged for his membership since his INS would pay for it. Manager, Abby, denied this benefit, said Blink did not accept his code and I, his daughter could call her. She was not available when called but would return my call shortly.INS also called Blink and was told by Blink rep they understood the next steps. By 12/28/18, I still had not received a call from Abby so the Blink rep left a note for her to call me asap. She called 12/29 and told me they did not accept the code. Abby explained that she was not familiar with INS calling and that possibly another manager from the meeting had taken the call.I explained to her that she should not deny a member if she isnt 100% aware and also told her that a current member has the same benefit so perhaps she can look into their account set up for more information but she refused. During my workout this same day, she came by and provided a document from Blink that addressed how the confirmation code is to be obtain and that she would work on this. She provided me a copy of this document in case I wanted to review it and I told her i already provided the code but perhaps Blink accessed the website differently that might possibly provide additional information she would need, and that I would wait for her response. She also said that if my dads insurance showed that Blink was in network then he should not have a problem on 1/1/19, since my concern was him being charged and this was all to prevent this from happening. I told her I would come to the gym on 1/1/19 to ensure this was addressed. The document states that "If the policy holder is an active Blink member, we will freeze their account(following the steps below) so that they are not charged for their recurring membership and will not have to pay a cancellation fee". I came on 1/1/19 , she said she was busy but that she would call me in 1 hr to let me know the status,no call.On 1/2/19, I approached her which is when she accessed the website only to find that the confirmation code was the same one I provided a week prior. Now she would reach out to Blink corp to figure out how to process this info. She said she couldnt freeze the account and that my dad was charged on 1/1/19 because she didnt access the website until 1/2/19 and she cant provide a refund. I explained that we had requested this be resolved last week but that she failed to work promptly to resolve this matter. Her response was that she was busy, and that considering my dad will get free membership going forward, that paying an additional month should make no difference. A member should not be the one to show an Manager of a facility how to process membership for their own facility and if a new benefit is put in place, a member should not be responsible to explain the workings of said benefit. It is the sole responsibility of the Manager representing Blink fitness to be knowledgeable on all benefits and services they provide and if they are unaware, they should reach out to appropriate resources who can help them. They should not tell a member they don't accept an insurance or a benefit when they are not 100% familiar about this service. They should not tell the member they were too busy because they are working by themselves, not when we have been more than patient considering we never received any follow up calls when we were told they would happen and in fact we were doing all the follow ups.. Additionally, considering the fault is on the Manager for not doing whatever is necessary to add the confirmation # to members profile(something that was provided and also able to be obtain in less than 60 seconds via the website), the Manager should not tell any member that they should just pay for the additional month since going forward they...
Read moreSo I will say that the gym is clean and the staff are super friendly. The machines are usually all up kept and anytime I saw something out of service it was usually fixed within days. That's about as good as it gets from there.
The Reason why I give this gym 3 stars is because of just how ridiculously crowded it gets, especially on weekdays. The dumbbell area is usually swarmed with bros where you literally have no space to even move around and remains that way till I leave the gym. Of the 4 cable machines in the gym each one is always taken by groups doing the majority of there workout on that machine. I've finished 5 exercises to come back and see people still using the same machine. It's not even just the cable machines its just about every weight machine in the building. I've been to plenty of gyms but I have to say the members here can be blatantly nasty and condescending. Asking to share a machine is like asking the person if I can sleep with their respective girlfriend/boyfriend... Well maybe not that extreme but you get what I mean. I have legit stood waiting for 20 minutes for one of the 6 machines to open up to use for over 15 minutes only to have one open up and as I walk to it someone else jumps on it after telling the person I was waiting. I'm not a fan of sharing because I don't like people watching me when I work out but sometimes I will ask anyway and they will just say I am almost done again while they take 2 minute breaks on there phone with 3 sets still left. It can be infuriating when you want to keep consistent with your workout and not lose your flow.
If you don't care about some sass from the patrons, asking to share every machine in the gym, or squeezing through people to re rack some weights then go for it. I've been there for 4 months and I can't deal with it anymore. I don't base this on morning but afternoon and night time are just abysmal. The gym is well kept and being able to bring unlimited guests was the selling point for me. I'm sure other blinks are better seeing as I used to go to the one near bloomfield when I lived their. But this is the closest one to me now so changing to another is just inconvenient and a extended drive. Maybe in time the gym will die down but its just not for me. And this is no insult to blink since they didn't really do...
Read moreI checked out Blink /back on Super Bowl Sunday, looking for a new gym after NYSC in Clifton did me dirty. I'm a serious lifter so I'm not looking for several different amenities/classes, etc. when looking for a place to train. So long as they have weights, dumbbells, benches and a power rack or two I'm satisfied. So I was very surprised when I was shown that not only did they have power racks, but they actually had FIVE of them. And to boot they all are equipped with pullup/chinup bars up top as well as hooks so you can attach resistance bands (although I've yet to see anyone put that to use.
What was also a pleasant surprise was that they have a dedicated area for deadlifting, complete with bumper plates. NYSC, in all fairness, does in fact have a deadlift platform but it's a bit uneven, so it's nice to be able to just lift on a flat surface. I just wish they had at least one more pair of 45lb bumpers. The bars are so new that the knurling is strong enough to rip your shins up if you're deadlifting, and that you can put them on your back knowing that while you squat the fear of the bar rolling off you will never be an issue.
I also an very friendly with the staff. They're just as friendly as the guys and girls in my former gym. Only difference here is that everyone is doing something, and no one person is ever truly standing around. You'll even find the desk people replacing the soap in the bathroom or even vacuuming from time to time.
Overall I like this particular location. It may be a commercial gym but as you can see in my pictures they do cater to more serious lifters like myself. In fact I read in another review that those power racks and the benches came in after increased demand from other members, which told me that management here listens to it's client base. That's good business.
Only drawbacks are that for guy way bigger and stronger than I am the dumbbell weights don't increase past 90lbs. Also (and in all fairness I'm sure other gyms have this issue as well), I find the leather covering the benches to be way too slippery. Regardless of your benching style you MUST stay tight and firm when benching and I find it very difficult to keep from slipping around unless I lay down with a towel over the bench. Otherwise I'd recommend this location of...
