MY EXPERIENCE AT THE HEIGHTS THEATER MADE ME BELIEVE IN A HIGHER POWER. Upon arrival for a showing of White Christmas, I noticed one of my car tires was. I decided to deal with it after the movie - not wanting to miss a moment of the pre-movie organ performance (which was PHENOMENAL). The organ performance, jazz singer, and movie were all SHEAR CHRISTMAS PERFECTION. In case you are unfamiliar with the film, it ends with a long awaited first snow on Christmas Eve. Upon exiting the theater, what do we see?! AN UNEXPECTED DUSTING OF SNOW!! YES - JUST LIKE THE END OF THE MOVIE! It was so unexpected that I thought the theater had thrown fake snow on the ground to mimic the end of the movie and I am still not completely convinced they didn't orchestrate this snow in some way. As I make my way back to my car, I see that I have a completely flat tire - my car is most certainly undriveable. Not having a clue what to do - I get into the car and start googling what to do and look into getting a Lyft home (which would be a good 30-40 dollars given the time of day and the distance I lived from the theater). A moment before I book the Lyft - I hear a knock on my window and see two young men (one in flip-flops), who seemingly appeared out of nowhere, pointing at my tire. I roll down my window and they state, "Your tire is flat". I sigh and tell them I am unfortunately aware. They then proceed to ask me to plug this device into my car cigarette lighter and say they will inflate it for me. What are the odds that these two angelic youths appear at the exact moment I needed them with a perfect solution to my very annoying problem?! I didn't even know a portable car tire inflator existed!! They inflate the tire for me and identify the cause - I ran over a screw. It takes about 10 minutes - but it gets inflated enough that I am able to drive it home AND drive it to the repair shop the next morning!! They restored any lost faith I had in humanity and I will forever be grateful for their complete selflessness and true kindness they exhibited on that cold, snowy evening.
I unfortunately had nothing to give them except my extreme gratitude and I wanted to write this review in the hopes that they may see it and know how much their kindness meant to me and how I think they are probably the best humans I have ever met.
So - if you want to have a RELIGIOUS experience - go to The...
Read moreI went to The Heights for the first time a year or so ago, just because there was a movie playing that I wanted to see. I had no idea that the experience would form into a mild addiction. The Heights has ruined it for me to go to any other theater.
The Heights isn't very close to where I live (Loring Park) but now when I feel like going to a movie, the first thing I find out is what is playing at this theater. So many things just amaze me about the place. The main thing for me is that I feel like it is managed by people who love movies and love this building. It seems to be driven by a passion. It's so different from the sterile chains that are throughout the Twin Cities.
What this great theater manages to do is create an environment that is almost like a living museum but still a great entertainment experience.
And the organ! I generally only go to The Heights on a Friday or Saturday evenings. I don't know if it's camp or what, but having someone play the massive organ instead of the inane commercials you get at the chain theaters, just makes me smile. I feel let down if I go there and no one is playing.
What about the silly film clip with the women baking cookies? That's brilliant!
I look forward to the renovation of the Uptown. The Uptown always depresses me because I see the bones of a great theater that they just let fall to pieces. When I go to The Heights, I think to myself how these guys could teach the Landmark people a thing or two about how to...
