Would you like to purchase a membership? No? It will save you money..... Okay, your loss, but you really should. Do it next time. Do you want to pay for a warranty in case your game/console doesn't work?
Excuse me? If my game or console doesn't work, it doesn't have a warranty built in that I can return it for...? (IT DOES. Scammy scam scam! For shame.)
Kindly please: LEAVE ME ALONE AND LET ME JUST BUY THE STUFF I WANT WITHOUT BEING HARASSED FOR NOT PAYING $ FOR SOMETHING I DON'T WANT! How many times do I have to say no...? Does it have to be responded to with judgmental superiority?
Today I picked up my Switch 2 on launch day, and the dude asked me about renewing my membership. I said no. He persisted in a tone equivalent to, "but if you were smart, you would!...." I interjected, "I've regretted being a member twice."
He replied, "That's hateful!" Uh, no "It's justified emotions to money poorly spent. It's not hate, it's just reality." Then more unsolicited judgment and attitude. So I gave mine.
"Me not wanting your subscription again is not hateful...but I find your continually badgering people to get a membership and being obnoxiously persistent.....unfriendly."
"They'll fire me if I don't do it," he says.
Whoever is responsible for this business practice, chill! It's beyond repellant. Be friendly to the clientele, not car salesmen slick! If you don't love loving games...why are you there? Nice
BTW: have you ever tried using your Gamestop member rewards/coupons on a preorder? I did! Oops, you can't! Did they not tell you that? Wonder why... Probably get fired if they acknowledged a single reason not to buy the services they're forcefully pushing. Gamestop indeed uses verbal force and psychological manipulations in a reprehensible manner.
After I declined the extra fee for a warranty, this salesperson then mentioned Murphy's Law to me and told me not to complain to him when my system malfunctions....LOL. These fellows are clearly very confused about what they should or should not be saying to customers, and it wasn't always so.
Trying to make you feel stupid or thoughtless for not buying one service, trying to scare you if you don't pay for another thing that didn't used to exist back when Gamestop had a friendly, warm, lively, welcoming atmosphere...that ain't where it's at.
Let me be clear: I do not like Gamestop and I don't think most people really do. I like video games and toys and such, and Gamestop has that stuff. I DEFINITELY don't go for the customer experience.
Getting labeled hateful for saying no (repeatedly) and indicating past poor experience...having it implied my brand new system is going to break and I won't be protected...simply bizarre and kinda disturbing.
If they're trying to be funny with insulting, demeaning, pressuring, harassing and fear-inducing sales tactics........they need a dictionary and/or Youtube.
But! 2 stars cause they had the Switch 2 pre-order available when no one else did! Unfortunately the environment many Gamestop employees create drags this score down.
I remember when I'd walk into a Gamestop (or EBGames! Or Babbages! all at the Columbia Mall) and they'd be friendly and passionate about video games and you'd have good talks. They'd greet you as you came in. That has not been my experience in years. Now I walk into this Gamestop and it generally feels like clouds hang over it. Not a friendly store. You get to the checkout and have to deal with aggressive sales tactics and might be insulted for not wanting to spend your money the way they're pressuring you into spending it. It gets old.
Let's be real here; IF GAMESTOP WASN'T MAKING $ ON THE MEMBER SUBSCRIPTIONS, IT WOULDN'T EXIST. I can tell you from twice subscribing...not good for my wallet.
Take note, please: harassing, pressuring, insulting, condescending, scaring, verbally judging your customers is a great way to lose them.
Gamestop, please be more loving again.
TY!
P.S. Wild I picked up my Switch 2 with just a phone # and no ID or receipt...new employee...
Read moreI do not know how this place has such a good rating. I went to this gamestop to return a ps4 that I did not use, I only opened it. I called the place before going in to ask if I can return it even if it was opened, and they said I can. But once I got there, I was constantly questioned by the asian guy that was helping me because he thought I was secretly switching a used ps4 in since he couldn't find the ps4's matching code in the system. He even said to my face that I am possibly trying to trick him but that he's too smart to be tricked. Also, the manager there (white guy who usually wears a hat) said to me, "so your ps4 was defected so you bought another one and kept the new one and the one in this box is your defected ps4 right?". After about 25 minutes, it turned out that the asian guy was not putting in the code correctly which was why the he couldn't find the matching code. I first let it go because I can tell the asian guy felt bad and he tried to give me a discount on the ps4 because it was a little after black Friday and they had a deal on it, so he asked the manager if I can get the deal (I dont exactly remember how the deal worked). But the manager was very loud and said that I cannot get the deal because then everybody will be doing what im doing. And on top of all this, the manager was just plain rude because he asked me a question and kept cutting me off before I can even explain. I will never go back to this place ever again. This place just seems like a horrible environment with a lot is...
Read moreThis is for the Second Floor Gamestop located at the Columbia Mall. If you can, buy your games and do your trade ins at another store. The customer service at this store is very bad. The manager as the employee treat the customers as if we can't buy games anywhere else. I went to the store to trade in 3 games. One of the games was still sealed because it was never used. It came with the xbox kinect. This short employee (so you can recognize him if you visit the store from hell) immediately insinuated that I may have stolen the game from the store, even thought the game had no Gamestop stickers etc. I offer to open the game, but then he couldn't accept the trade in because he saw me open it. I ask for the manager. He goes in to get him and after 10 mns the manager comes out with the employees version of the story. The manager tells me he can't accept the game and to go to another Gamestop to do the trade in. He even tells me that the game is not worth anything, with out checking the system to see if it was true. Punks stick together. I took the games, went to another store with a more mature manager, and guess what, it was worth something. He told me that the manager had the option to accept the game and just tell me the policy of the store with sealed games with out insinuating that I stole the damm thing. If Gamestop wants to survive, it better start hiring better managers, employees and treat customers better. Off course I will never spend a cent...
