Flat Rock Park, my favorite Park in the city. I recommend going before it gets dark, for extra safety. Not to mention the park closes at sundown. There is at least one police officer that comes and drives through the park and pushes everybody towards the exit. You can fish here. One of the most popular attractions now is the Disc Golf course(s) weaved throughout the part. It is on my to-do list, of things to try. I've seen people have baby showers, weddings, picnics & cookouts, family photo shoots, and glamour shots, and even family reunions. You can bring your dogs (with a leash) to the park. There are multiple playgrounds for the children. Come check it out. There are bathrooms and trash cans on site and the bathrooms do have toilet paper and are clean typically which is surprisingly awesome. There are some grilling areas/picnic tables. ( I'd probably bring my own stuff though. I don't personally know if there are specific rules) there are a few buildings on site that you can look into renting out for an occasion also. I do wish the city would work on tree removal at this park. I use to work in trees. There is a lot that could be done that would keep the park beautiful and safe. The park is a free way to have some fun, so please respect it when you come visit. Hope to see...
Read moreWe were so lucky to discover Flat Rock Park on our weekend getaway to Columbus! Its absolutely gorgeous, and is now our favorite park in all of South and Middle Georgia. The park is huge and offers miles of hiking and biking trails, gorgeous views, swimming/wading areas, disc golf, playgrounds, pavilions and picnic areas, geocaching, and waterfalls galore. Although I highly recommend getting out and exploring, you can also enjoy the park without stepping foot outside of your vehicle. There's a one-way paved loop the circles the park, which provides excellent views from the comfort of your car. As unbelievable as this hidden gem is, its even more unbelievable that its completely free. There's no admission charge or parking fee of any kind. If you're in the area, then this park is a must-see! And its definitely worth a drive for for those farther away that love nature and the outdoors. PSA- Do be sure to watch out for centipedes and cactus/prickly-pears while visiting,...
Read moreMy favorite park in town. It's beautiful and people are usually really nice and friendly. Watch out for the mud pits, at certain times of the year we are constantly seeing people get their trucks stuck multiple times a day.
The police drive through the park at night to make sure everyone leaves.
Park conditions: I feel like more efforts are directed to maintain and beautify cooper Creek, but that's just my personal opinion.
I'd love to see some of the roads/sides of roads fixed due to erosion, holes filled in, trees that are about to fall or "hangers", (branch pieces that aren't even connected) that could easily fall and hurt someone.
But otherwise come on out. I saw the biggest deer of my life in a creek, in the woods. It was beautiful and it didn't even make a sound when it moved. Living out in Midland I see deer on the side of the road all the time, but never like this.
Come check out the park...
