Wow. Just a terrible experience today. Never written a review from the parking lot before, but here goes... Was trying to find any help for 15 minutes, no one. Then, when I was finally able to flag someone down for 2 pretty simple questions, he grunted "over there" then threw 2 sweet potato vines in my cart. When I asked if there were any more (I wanted 3 flats), he said "probably not" and walked away without checking.
Go to check out, asked about self water baskets, and was pointed to a vague area. Turns out that there were only 2 different kinds of self-watering hanging baskets.
Then made it back to line. Cashier bent over backwards for the woman in front of me, including calling another cashier over to search for a coupon.
After an eternity, apparently my almost $300 was not worth the same consideration.
Having already spent $900 at Oakland this morning, I realized that it is my own damn fault for not ordering online, but I try to support local.
Also, keep in mind that this was a MONDAY afternoon.
Do what you want, but they have gone way downhill...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was visiting family in the area, and stopped in to look at some houseplants. I am a big house plant collector, i got an alocasia and hoya from them. I always check for pests in the store and didnāt notice anything but when i got back to my family members home a few hours later i noticed the hoya RIDDLED in aphids!! By the next morning the alocasia was about completely eaten through on a stem. Iām glad i did not bring that into my home where i have 50+ houseplants, this is as terribly sad and unacceptable for any store to sell plants riddled in pests like this. Spider mites are one thing but when you are getting into aphids and other more dangerous pests thatās a whole other level of neglect and a money hungry store. not to mention when i asked an employee if they had any other alocasiaās around the store she quickly said āno the one you see is all we haveā when that was clearly untrue as i continued to walk the store finding others, she just didnāt want to take time to help or direct me to others or maybe just uneducated about...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visit this particular Straders often as they seem to stock more rare and unusual houseplants than the other locations. Staff are typically friendly and helpful (aside from one negative experience which was had in the past), and I love their selection of macrame and in-home furnishings. The reason for the 3-star review today is because of the overwhelming odor of cat urine which has been persistently present and worsening with each of my most recent visits. At first I explained away the unpleasant odor as perhaps some type of fertilizer or pesticide treatment they had used on the plants, but this Saturday when I dropped in, the odor was undeniable and strong enough to make my eyes water. It's not that I take issue with cats being present within the facility, it's simply that an odor like this is an undeniable indication of less than sanitary conditions in addition to being unpleasant/distasteful. I hope this review reaches ownership/management so that something may be done to remedy the problem before it significantly impacts...
