Honest Review of Battleground Breakers
Battleground Breakers has an okay selection of Pokémon and sports cards, and while I appreciate the availability of market-value singles at times, their pricing on sealed products is extremely inflated. Single packs and Elite Trainer Boxes are often sold at scalper-level prices—something you should avoid paying at all costs. Before buying here, check out retailers like Target, Fred Meyer, Walgreens, or other local stores where you can find $5 packs instead of paying nearly double at this shop.
One of the most concerning issues is the owner’s purchasing behavior. A look into his Reddit history shows that he bragged about buying 63 boxes of the highly sought-after Blooming Waters set from our local Costco. This practice—buying up all the available product at MSRP just to resell at a premium—is essentially price gouging. It hurts the community and contributes to inflated prices, making it harder for casual collectors and kids to enjoy the hobby.
Beyond the pricing issues, the overall atmosphere of the store is not family-friendly. The music choices can be inappropriate, and the vibe leans more toward a reseller/investor scene rather than a welcoming environment for kids and casual players. The staff and regulars include individuals with a “Whatnot reseller” energy, and the green-haired, face-tattooed crowd doesn’t exactly give off a warm, family-friendly feel.
Additionally, this shop lacks community support. There are no tournaments, no events for kids, and no real emphasis on playing the game—just an overwhelming focus on flipping products for profit. To make things even more questionable, the owner incentivizes 5-star reviews by giving out free packs, which likely skews the ratings you see here.
If you’re looking for a place that truly supports collectors and players, I’d recommend exploring other options before supporting a business that prioritizes profits over...
Read moreAlways has nothing except for 3 display cases full of product that’s not for sale that’s also recent product it’s more like someone’s personal collection rather than a store. What’s the lie? Also, a glory of team rocket case is not a “exclusive Pokémon center item”, they are also going for $311 on Sakuras card shop, LESS than $250 on eBay AND SnkrDunk (likely your japanese supplier you pull the stickers off of and sell for almost triple what they’re worth). NOT $500. Also tell me when evolving skies booster boxes were “Exclusive” to Pokémon center (they were not). There are two $2000 bricks sitting in the back of your store. And thanks for agreeing that you just have your personal collection out, The only thing I can congratulate you for is having stuff at market or slightly above. So for you to reply and lie is completely disgusting and no, I will keep coming back and I will keep updating this review with my honest opinion of this “card store”. Also, on the matter of this being a new account, it’s the one I’ve always had . Just my experience was so bad at your shop that I chose to Start reviewing places.
June 25th, 2025 Update: You did state in your previous review that “Everything in the cases are Pokémon center exclusive items” and now you changed that. Editing the entire review is beyond disgusting. Should’ve screenshotted the previous one, so keep trying to sell your glory of team rocket “exclusive case” that is double the price it is anywhere else on the internet. You also complain about not getting allocation in other reviews but then state that “everything sealed” is from distributors. Don’t play dumb you got caught scalping Costco and probably every other place around the city. This place is not going to last long if you continue...
Read moreMy 3rd visit to the store was yesterday. I bought 3 cards totaling $71. The cheapest card was $19 and turns out I had it. Tried to return it first thing next day w/receipt to the same blue haired cashier that sold it to me and was told no. The excuse was people could swap out cards but if you’re making your prices based on value it would be very easy to see this card was worth $19 and the same. A card shop specializes in assessing the value of cards, this seemed like a no brainer.
To say other stores don’t allow it is false. I made a similar mistake with the comic book shop in northtown and they let me do a return same day as the cashier recognized me from the purchase. I chose to do business with small business like yourself to have a better report but I guess that was wishful thinking. Good luck with your store, hope your success isn’t reliant on the mistakes of others. I spent a few hundred dollars in your shop and you’re getting weird over $20. You’re losing more money than just the return here bub but...
