Callan Furniture — Attraction in Waite Park

Purpose of our visit; My wife and I were shopping for a quality leather sofa and love-seat.

Preparation; We did our homework in advance, researching the internet and visiting several furniture stores (big box and smaller family owned businesses) to learn about various brands, quality, color variations, costs, maintenance and warranties. At competing stores we consistently found fair service (not as knowledgeable as we had hoped), and a wide range of furniture brands. Better manufactured products clearly stood out, but we were amazed at the lack of selection. The biggest challenge we faced; most good leather furniture is available in two or less color selections (even if you are willing to custom order).

The Store; Then we visited Callan Furniture. What a huge difference! We found at least four sets that had the features we wanted. All were very comfortable and well-constructed. Three of the four sets came in colors that we had not found anywhere else. In addition, Callan’s staff does a terrific job of displaying furniture, so it looks and feels like a living room. It was spaced appropriately so we could fully operate the features (reclining/footrests), and paired the furniture with lighting, end tables and rugs to help the client better envision how the furniture might look in your own home. Great Job! Ultimately, we selected a sofa/love-seat set that can be manufactured with a variety of top-grain leathers. Finally - a store that understands that not all consumers have the same taste.

Value; We found Callan’s listed prices to be slightly less than competing stores, and with the sale discount, Callan furniture was easily the best value. Price was not our first priority, but it was nice to complete our purchase knowing we received what we considered the best price for the level of quality we were looking for.

Sales Associate; Tony – incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and absolutely no sales pressure! Because of our prior research, we knew what we wanted, and quickly assessed that Tony knows furniture. Tony confirmed/validated our understanding of quality products, provided meaningful input, allowed us to explore the various brands handled by Callan, and allowed us to look around at our own pace which made our shopping experience very relaxing. The prices and selection are as good as any other places in town, however my experience with their sales staff was the problem. The first time I went there a middle to late aged saleswoman with red hair was helping me. She didn't offer any information, or seem to care at all about selling anything. The next day, I did meet a saleswoman who seemed to offer some helpful information, but as I was walking around the store by myself, the first saleswoman with red hair walked past me, not recognizing me from the day before, then walked to another saleswoman, and asked if I was being helped, the other responded that I had said I was. The red haired saleswoman, condescendingly replied, well he's obviously lieing, then the other looked at me and said, I think he can hear you. The red headed one replied, with another condescending remark.

Being in sales myself, It annoys me when a salesperson doesn't pitch a product to me, or work for the sale at all. But when they speak condescendingly about customers, or blow them off, they obviously don't deserve your business.

I'm not sure if it's a mangagement issue, or a rouge salesperson, but I can gurantee you, I won't be filling my house with...

I had a GREAT experience at Callans shopping for a new King mattress and bed set this weekend. After spending many hours visiting other furniture retailers in the area, we were the most impressed with the quality at customer service at Callans. Dion was our salesman and his knowledge of both the products and industry was incredible. He took the time to fully educate us on the product, answering all our questions and helping us weigh our options. We could tell that he was genuine and had our best interest in mind...he was not pushy at all and was truly a pleasure to work with. We also found the quality/product integrity to be much better than some of the other big box retailers, so we are thrilled about our purchase from a local business with a quality product and a class-act sales staff.
