After reading the yelp reviews of another escape room enthusiast in the NoVA area, I came across a review for this escape room venue. Having been to quite a few escape rooms (16) and a few venues (6), I am always down for something new and innovative.
What can I say, but wow!
Wow. Wow. Wow.
This venue exceeded my expectations. If you are looking for something new, don't hesitate to go to this venue! It's unlike any venue you have been to, trust me!
First, the venue is currently doing a 20% off coupon for the next two weeks.
Next, when you arrive, the building is so unsuspecting, you could miss it if you didn't know what you were looking for, however when you walk inside, you are immediately greeted by your game master (mine was Kat, who was fabulous) and a wonderfully minimalistic decor.
From there, you can lock things in a locker and keep the key. And guess what? The locker has a phone charger inside! What better incentive to keep your cell phone away from you while playing the game.
The theme of their current (and only room so far) is a Wild West Themed roomed called Train Robbery. I went today on a weekday at the 10 pm appointment time and booked it maybe an hour prior and was able to have the room with just me and my partner.
The room: Amazing! Decorated so nicely! All of the props and furniture made the room so believable, like you traveled back in time. Without giving to much away, yes! There are no locks (directional, numerical or otherwise), just props that fit like puzzle pieces within the game.
The game was definitely challenging, especially for 2 people but doable! My partner and I completed with quite a few hints and some extra time that's to our lovely game master!
The storyline was incredible. I can't wait to see their space themed room in the next few months! I'll definitely be back!
Thank you Kat and Cyber Raccoon team for the...
Read moreOur family (7 adults) likes to do escape rooms together and this is the best one we've ever done. The narrative-driven mystery was very satisfying and enabled us all to follow the story while we were doing it (at some escape rooms everyone is working on their own puzzle or code and it's not till our "debrief" after we leave that we figure out how it all goes together). There was lots to investigate and explore and the instruction we were given to read each clue we found aloud to make sure everyone heard it meant that we were really working as a team (even if different people were focusing on different parts at various times). The props and room decor were fantastic. Everything was solid and real and satisfying to handle. There were many surprising and exciting moments and lots about which, afterwards, we said "How did they do that?!" And the creativity in the kinds of puzzles we needed solved was off the charts--we had to engage with all of the neat things in the room--nothing glued down "just for show" that, when you realize has no purpose, takes you out of the moment. The story itself was clever and included an extremely surprising and fun twist. We appreciated the thoughtful touches in the outer room--from lockers where we could place handbags (and charge our phones at the same time!) to a water fountain and even a coffee bar. Our host, Kat, was helpful, friendly, and did a great job telling us what we needed to know. She also took great pictures of us afterwards (it was nice to be able to take pictures in the room itself instead of standing in front of a wall). We were excited to hear that another room is in the works and we will definitely return to do it...
Read moreWe had a great time! Our proctor was "Kat" who checked us in and was great. She helped us get set up and we were off trying to solve the series of mysteries/problems in order to escape. I don't want to spoil the actual experience but let me say it was truly fun! Our group consisted of me, my wife, our two kids (7 and 13), and my brother. The riddles/puzzles were challenging but not too challenging. The room is very well done and looks great. Everyone in our group contributed to solving the challenges, so its fun for all. With that said, I would say if you bring a child with you under 7 or 8 make sure that they enjoy reading and solving problems. You have one hour to complete the challenges and "escape", we ran a little over to complete the challenges and escape. Since we were close to completing at the end of the hour, Kat was nice to let us stay a couple of minutes over to complete it because we were the last group for the night. I wouldn't expect to be allowed to take extra time if there is another group waiting behind you.
Overall, a great experience for our family and I highly recommend it! If your looking for a fun way to spend an hour with your family, friends, and/or team, then do it! Cyber Raccoon Escape Room does...
