Really glad I opted for a 7 day trial and not a membership. I wish it was busy here on Friday so I wouldn’t have even spent in money here. I got the 7 day membership on and came today. Now I only came back because I had already paid for the membership. I went to a range in Severn and paid for my brother in law, myself, and brought a box of ammo for $39 in July. I paid $77 for the membership and a box of ammo with my own gun and by myself! The lady stated sign in and someone will come out and get you. She did not state sign in, go to the car to wait, and someone will get you. So of course I assumed she meant wait there. She also DID NOT mention the wait is a 1 1/2 long. Why would you not think to offer that Info? So I’m standing there and I notice that sign does state to go and wait in the car but I wanted to know how long it would be before doing so. Again nobody comes out and iterates I should walk to my car or see why I was standing there. The male employee came from behind the counter and walked right pass the door where I was standing.
Now keep in mind they have cordless phones so I called to find out the wait time. She answers and immediately tells me to hold, finishes her call, hangs up the phone and walks to the door to let a guest out NEVER coming back to the phone. That was when I asked and she told me the wait time. Disgusting professionalism and rude. First if that’s your operating policy right now put up a board where you can update the waiting time next to the sign in sheet so people how long the wait is and can be informed before signing the sheet outside of the locked door. The size you would need cost $5 at target.
Also when I came on Friday I went to a booth where the target from the last patron was still hanging and some protective glasses were left on the table, and riddled with his shell casings that I had to sweep up. So I highly doubt they are cleaning the booths after people leave like not spraying them down with disinfectant or anything. I wanted to take advantage of the weekly membership but honestly I’d rather go to another county anyway where I can bring my own ammmunition and not have to pay $40 for a box of 9mm at a establishment operating...
Read moreOne thing I have to keep in mind is that not only is this Maryland, but it is Montgomery County, so I can't be as harsh as I would be grading a range in a state like Virginia or Texas.
First off, Gilbert's has a monopoly in the indoor range market for MoCo. I would say that if they were in a location with more competition, they would have a lot of work to do.
The lanes are fairly dim. The ventilation could be better but I've experienced worse. The lanes are simple. Send the target out to the desired distance and fire away. I've never had an issue with the staff, but I've also had minimal interaction with them.
One big downside that has already been mentioned is that you must use their ammo. Which is one thing by itself, but there is currently a national ammo shortage for all popular calibers. So there are purchase limits (1 box at this time) and if they run out of 9mm...you can't shoot your 9mm firearm even if you have your own stockpile of ammo. This was the nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned. Why get a membership and I can't shoot as many rounds as I want, in the caliber I want, as...
Read moreI sent an email to this place two weeks ago to try to get information on what rentals they have available and never heard back from them. On 11/12 and 330pm I called the business to get information on the rules for renting guns and using the range and I was told it was first come serve and that I must have another person with me because they have a buddy system. I said that my wife and I would be there before they close to rent a gun and use a lane so that would work. We arrived at 4:48pm and were told that we could not use their facility or services unless we had an annual membership. This is unacceptable because this is nowhere on the website, and the person we spoke with the same day we were going to attend told us nothing of the sort.
In conclusion, we drove an hour from Baltimore to try to use this business, and we’re turned away for reasons that we were not told in advance, even after calling the same day. My recommendation to anyone planning on going to this business is to take the drive to Owings Mills and go to Guntry, where they have much better...
