Absolutely Stunned by the Cleanliness of the Boardwalk and the Benches!!!
I have to say this before anything else, We were absolutely stunned by the Cleanliness of the Pier, The Boardwalk and the Gazillion wooden benches they have all along the Pier and Boardwalk. We were unable to find a single bird dropping in spite of the fact that there were plenty of seagulls making this place their home. There is not a lot to see around here and I have to admit this is more of a Boardwalk which probably spans a couple miles along the shore line than a beach sand retreat. There is literally very little sand to play with and you have to pay $25 (If you are out of county visitor) if you want to play in the sand, but no fee to enjoy the Pier, the Boardwalk, the Benches (almost all of the benches have a Commemorative plaque on them) at this place. There are a couple of eateries (Ice Cream Shop, Hot Dog vendors, Pizza shop etc.) right beside the boardwalk and some nice looking apartments, a tiny park and more. The place was very peaceful, did not have too many visitors either, but definitely did feel safe, no issues there. The Best way to get here is to map your Google maps to North Beach Visitor Center or North Beach Pier, MD. It takes you right to the edge of beach. There is plenty of free Parking all over the place. There is paid parking too, but we just used the free parking since there were plenty available within 50 feet of the visitor center.
This is a good place to visit if you have tiny tots that run around and just want to spend time out side in the Sun. I did not find any specific place where a family could just tent up and have fun, but some of the families did use the open free parking space to establish their make shift tent for the day. There is very little traffic near the boardwalk, if any at all. Every now and then there were a few cars passing by at a really slow pace, which I believe the parents with tiny tots will be pleased to know. There were plenty of people walking their dogs on the Boardwalk, no fees to have your pet walk the Boardwalk either.
All in all, A fantastic day trip to spend a few peaceful hours in the sun by the ocean with unrestricted gorgeous view of the ocean from the Pier, topped with some serious...
Read moreCalvert County’s North Beach is a bayside town that absolutely lives up their adopted slogan as the “Jewel of the Chesapeake Bay”. At the center and focus beyond the restaurants, boardwalk, antique stores, ice cream shops, water park, beach access, and everything else that gives it the tourist resort feel that it was built for, is the North Beach Pier. It is my favorite pier in Maryland for a number of reasons. This is a very active pier from which I have captured some of the most amazing sunrises and sunsets. There is ALWAYS something going on, or someone on the pier. Whether it’s fisherman on the designated lower deck of the pier, a yoga class at sunrise, couples at sunrise or sunset, families and students taking pictures for prom, homecoming, any other special events, or the residents of Calvert County that come everyday a few times a day walking, exercising, or taking their dogs out. This is an extremely dog friendly pier and is by far, the best maintained pier by staff and guests alike. The fishing is excellent here, especially towards the fall and winter months. North Beach Pier, and Chesapeake Beach in Maryland is where I go to escape the mental rigors of the day to day, and close enough of a drive to truly be able to relax for...
Read moreVisited the area for something to do on a Sunday. The pier and the boardwalk are very clean and make for a nice walk. Overall though there isn't much to do or see. They wanted to charge $17 to actually go onto the small beach which I found to be more than ridiculous. They had employees guarding the entry points to make sure people paid and the sign also said that they search coolers to make sure there's no alcohol. I won't be coming back. It's too bad, I could see them charging a couple of bucks for access to the pier and boardwalk, but they even charge military members $9 to go onto the beach. Sad to...
