I have been coming here for years, and I cannot believe the treatment I received while shopping here recently. See, as a person of color, I’m already used to having an eye being kept on me when in establishments. But you see, I enjoy coming here since they tend to sell a lot of what the main stores I go to don't have, which is quite a shame considering the treatment I have received as if I wasn’t a loyal customer. Before, my husband came home once and told me about how one of the workers was quite literally TAILING him as if he was going to pick up something and dash out of the store right then and there. He is a dignified young man who would NEVER do such a thing, considering his upbringing. So for them to blatantly go off based upon stereotypes and to profile him is just disrespectful. It was as if we were just some strangers who haven’t been here around the clock every week, like clockwork! To my surprise, the item I picked up that day was EXPIRED. And you see, I was in a rush, so if it weren’t for my husband, I would’ve purchased the item, consumed it, and gotten sick. So, taking time out of my day, though I shouldn’t have to, I went to consult the staff. I kindly asked for a replacement, considering what I had picked up had gone bad, and when my husband began to sort through our items, he realized a lot of other things were expired too. And because of that, the man we were speaking with grew very upset with us, very fast. You would not think someone of his age would be able to raise his voice so quickly and would get short with you over something that was not the customer's fault. I was too stunned to speak, so my husband ended up directing the argument, trying to steadily explain to the old man that not only had the item we brought to his attention was expired but so had the vast others as well. And if he were to continue overlooking these mishaps, he could get into serious trouble, but that only seemed to make his fuse blow even faster! He claimed we were trying to sabotage his place of business and that we needed to leave, which was insane to me because, if anything, you were sabotaging yourself by storing expired food on the shelves. He called us multiple names, and since we were running late, we had no other choice but to leave everything there and leave his store. I cannot believe the encounter I had there since I’ve been coming here for quite some time and would never expect something like this to happen to me or my family. She noticed it was expired, being atleast 3 years expired! So we went to tell the worker that it was expired and if there was another drink that isn’t expired. The owner comes out he is “short, grey hair, had a black vest on, seems like he’s in his late 60s-70s” he begins to blame me and my family for bringing an expired drink from YOUR SHELF. This is your store and your products. The man started getting very hostile, and starting to raise his voice at us. My father told the man that we simply let him know his product was expired to bring awareness to double check the items he has in his store since there are also reviews of expired food in this store and people getting sick. The man begins to become VERY ANGRY after that he is screaming all kinds of things! My mother lets the guy know that you should not treat customers rude and raise their voice at them. The owner tells us to get out and leave in the middle of the cashier checking our groceries out. This was a simple mistake he could’ve apologized and move on from. He doesn't even know his store very well. They never have all the products that you need. I'd rather just go up the street to lotte. Then they judge you on your payment method and say EBT out loud like alrighty then saying I'm paying with EBT is not going to put food on your table and furthermore they have no idea what the hell I'm going through in life it's tacky, it's classless and ghetto. So I will take my EBT money somewhere else. Now you have one less customer.
