This complex was created as a municipal gym and auditorium in 1990. In 1996 it received a four million dollar renovation to create the 1,471 seat theater and to expand the campus. I'm a long time fan of this arts complex. When my daughter was in elementary school I used to take her and her friends over for art classes and to the children's events they hosted. She grew up attending the school field trips to the theater. In later years they added a peace sculpture garden outside that now hosts a touching painted rock tribute to the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas.
I came over on election day with a friend to view the art museum. They kindly offered free admission in honor of election day. The rest of the arts enter was being used as a voting site. Although small the art gallery is beautifully done with a wide open space, wood floors, and floor to window ceilings. During our visit there were three art exhibits. The main one was Metamorphosis by artist Daniel Winn. The exhibit was large fantasy paintings of people but my favorite part was sculptures of hands holding brightly colored apples. There was also an exhibit by the National Association of Women Artists called Daydreaming and art by Rolande Reverdy Moorhead called War and Patriotism that seemed appropriate for Veteran Day. The art museum also has a small gift shop selling beautiful jewelry, books, and decorative items.
At the Center for the Arts you see art, stroll a sculpture garden, or view a Broadway quality production. The center also has a dance studio and meeting rooms. Parking is free and plentiful which is always a plus. Coral Springs continues to be a beacon of the arts with this...
Read moreIt was our first time at this lovely and very clean theater. We arrived in time for will call where the attendant was polite and very helpful. As we entered the open-concept building I noticed a museum that was closed. It certainly looked impressive through the glass panels. I will make it a point to visit there one day soon. We went to the Art Center on two consecutive days to see "Cirque Musical Holiday Spectacular" on the first evening and "Motown Forever" on the second. The talent in both shows was impressive. At the "Cirque", if I have any criticisms, the lighting on stage was blinding to many of us in the audience. In the last few minutes someone placed a sheer curtain over the lighting and it was perfect. The other mention would be that parents took their children and didn't even make sure the children behaved. We had 2 very annoying children in front of us so we shifted over towards the aisle where the seats were empty. "Motown" was superb. This group of amazingly talented singers gave us our money's worth in energy and showmanship. They were incredibly upbeat and successful in motivating the audience to participate. I'm not sure what the problem is at the Art Center but the microphones at both shows we're going in and out. It was more of a problem for the Motown group of singers! This is an issue that needs to be rectified. Nevertheless, we had a great time at both events This art center is highly recommended, even if you live in Lake Worth like we do. We have reservations at the beginning of March 2022 as well to see an illusionist show. We can...
Read moreThis Center is built under the rule - everything against the person, especially a person with disability. First, all the stalls for people with disabilities are far away from the door. There is a place to drop off and pick up people with disability, but no valet parking. So if you are only driving yourself, you have to park around 0.12 miles away and walk (if you can to the building. The ADA rule states that parking places for people with disabilities should be no more than 100 yards away. However, I have noticed that in recent times, the ADA has become a laughingstock in the parking section. Furthermore, the entrance is located a considerable distance from the hall entrance. Although there are six entrances and exits, only two were working, and of course, those that are far away. In front of the entrance for picking up and dropping off persons with disabilities, there are no benches or any place to sit and wait for their ride to arrive. I have observed about 20 people with canes, walkers, and other walking devices waiting and standing for more than half an hour because the parking lot also has only one exit. A reward for all the inconvenience was the great food at the center and the...
