It had been nearly 30 years since I last dined at The Melting Pot, and I was expecting a retro, perhaps even outdated experience. I couldn't have been more wrong. The Coral Springs location, operating since the mid-80s, feels anything but old-fashioned. The moment you walk in, you're greeted by a modern, intimate atmosphere. The low lighting, cozy booths with red drapes for privacy, and a lack of blaring music create a comfortable, inviting vibe. It's clear they want you to take your time and enjoy your meal here—there’s no rush to turn tables.
The restaurant has also updated its cooking tables, replacing the old electric burners with modern induction ones. These heat up faster and emit much less ambient heat, making the experience more comfortable, especially during the warmer months.
We decided to go all out with the "Big Night Out" experience, which includes a cheese fondue starter, a meat and seafood fondue (with salads) as the main course, and a dessert fondue to finish. At $125 for two, it's a substantial meal, but you can also order a la carte if you prefer. The cocktails and wine we tried were excellent, complementing the meal perfectly.
The cheese fondue was just as I remembered—fun and delicious. We chose the classic Alpine blend of Gruyère, Raclette, Fontina, White Wine, Garlic, and Nutmeg, and it was fantastic. You can dip chunks of bread, vegetables, and apples into the pot using long skewers. There are other options, too, like cheddar, Mexican Fiesta, spinach and cheese, and quattro formaggio, and you can add a charcuterie platter for extra flavor. It’s a bit of a throwback, sure, but there’s nothing wrong with a bit of retro indulgence.
If you're worried about having a heavy meal in the middle of summer, you don't need to. The AC in the restaurant is excellent, and the new induction cookers mean no extra heat at your table. Plus, you don’t have to go for the cheese fondue if you’re looking for something lighter.
For our main course, we skipped the traditional oil-dipped Bourguignonne fondue and opted for the "Mojo" broth, a lighter, flavorful option with Latin herbs and spices. It was perfect for cooking our shrimp, salmon, chicken, filet mignon, and vegetables. It’s essentially a European take on a hot pot, and it was delicious. The restaurant also offers tabletop grills if you prefer that over a broth-based or oil-based fondue. The quality of the proteins was excellent, and the restaurant is very accommodating if you have dietary preferences—vegetarian, vegan, or pescatarian options are readily available.
The dipping sauces that came with our meal were a real highlight. My favorites were the Curry Yogurt and the Classic Green Goddess, but all of them added something special to the meal.
The salads were a pleasant surprise, too—huge portions that could easily be shared. I had the California salad with gorgonzola and walnuts, while my companion enjoyed the Melting Pot House salad. Both were fresh and flavorful, adding a nice balance to the meal.
Dessert was the grand finale, and we opted for the dark chocolate fondue. With seven different styles to choose from, including milk chocolate, white chocolate, and various swirls, you’re spoiled for choice. Our fondue came with an assortment of fruit and cake chunks for dipping, and you can also add extras like macarons, cream puffs, or caramel-salted cheesecake if you’re feeling indulgent.
The meal was a lot of fun and very filling, making it perfect for a special occasion. However, if you’re not up for the full four-course experience, you can order a la carte. For a more casual visit, consider stopping by during happy hour, where you can get half-off drinks and just share a single fondue between two people at the bar.
Overall, The Melting Pot is far from outdated. It’s a fantastic spot for a memorable night out, whether you’re looking for an indulgent meal or a more relaxed evening...
Read moreWhen my wife and I randomly stepped into The Melting Pot in Coral Springs, we liked the cozy atmosphere, especially the private booths with curtains for extra privacy. It's perfect for couples celebrating anniversaries or just wanting a quiet evening together… a nice setting if you cherish intimacy.
The ambiance set the stage, but it was the service that truly elevated our experience. (If you live in Florida and eat out a lot you know what I’m talking about.) Our server Sue, who graces the restaurant on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, was a gem. Despite our familiarity with fondue, Sue meticulously guided us through each course, from the special attention to check the consistency of the cheese in our starter to the identification of every meat, poultry and seafood in our main course. Her attentiveness and passion for the cuisine added immeasurably to our enjoyment. It’s such a breath of fresh air to visit a place for the first time and have a passionate server that can genuinely articulate what the place has to offer.
Onto the main event… the food and drinks. The Melting Pot boasts a full bar with a commendable selection of cocktails and wines, although beer aficionados might find the choices a tad limited. “cough-cough” However, where The Melting Pot truly shines is in its fondue offerings. The quality of ingredients was evident from the first bite, and the serving sizes were generous. While a four-course experience for two, with multiple drinks, exceeded $150 that was well over my McDonalds happy meal budget. I have to admit, it was worth the small HELOC loan I took to fund this feast.
Take into consideration and expect to spend over an hour here for the full experience. It’s fondue after all AND you’ll want to allot ample time to cook your main course. (Better to spend ample time cooking your food properly than spend ample time regretting your life choices in the bathroom!)
Reflecting on our visit, the seating was a bit like a well-loved grandparent—comfortable and familiar but showing a few signs of its age. Our booth had that endearing, lived-in charm, though it might benefit from a bit of TLC to perk it up a bit. On a positive note, the bathrooms were clean, well-maintained and in our experience… that tells you a lot about the place. “Kudos to the establishment’s hygiene standards!”
In conclusion, The Melting Pot in Coral Springs delivers a great dining experience characterized by delicious fondue, intimate ambiance, and top-notch service from Sue. Despite the minor seating aesthetic… Sure, the seating might need a facelift, but when you're dipping into cheese that good, who cares if the booth seat has a story or two to tell? The overall quality of the ingredients/food and the attentive service far outweigh that one drawback. Whether for a special occasion, a romantic evening out or if you’re a wanted person hiding from authorities and just want to enjoy good food in a booth where no other guest can see you. This place is a definite recommendation for fondue enthusiasts looking to indulge in a memorable...
Read moreWe were excited to share a new dining experience with our daughters and enjoy a special family night out with my in-laws. It had been quite some time since we last visited The Melting Pot, and everyone was looking forward to the fun, interactive meal the restaurant is known for.
Our reservation was for 6:30 PM, and upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by a lovely hostess and seated promptly. Shortly after we were seated, our waiter came by to introduce himself, take our drink orders, and explain the menu. Everything seemed to start off smoothly. However, it took about 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive, which felt a bit long, but we stayed optimistic and placed our order once the drinks came.
Unfortunately, things began to take a frustrating turn. It took 54 minutes for the cheese course to arrive, during which time one of the fondue pots at our table had completely evaporated all the water, causing it to start smoking and filling the air with a strong smell of burning. This was concerning, and it also seemed that our waiter was unsure of what he was doing while preparing the cheese fondue. He even commented, “I’m not sure why it’s doing this,” as the cheese failed to melt properly.
By this point, we were getting hungry, so we asked if our salads could be brought out to keep things moving along. Even then, it took 70 minutes from the time we placed our initial order for the salads to arrive. The entrée course didn’t come out until we had been seated for 90 minutes. While the entrées themselves were enjoyable, the process of clearing the fondue pots from the table raised serious safety concerns.
The pots, which contained hot oil and broth, were lifted from the table without any kind of cover. We were surprised that no precautions were taken to cover the pots before removing them. Had there been a spill, it could have easily burned one of my children, my in-laws, or anyone else in the path. Thankfully, nothing was spilled, but the situation felt unnecessarily risky, and we were left feeling uneasy.
When it was time for dessert, we were all looking forward to it as the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, dessert didn’t arrive until 2 hours and 25 minutes after we placed our initial order. We had ordered milk chocolate and white chocolate fondue, but neither turned out as expected. The milk chocolate tasted and looked like dark chocolate, while the white chocolate appeared watered down and lacked the creamy flavor one would expect. I questioned the waiter about this, but he insisted that both were correct. Oddly enough, just moments later, another customer approached him with the exact same question, confirming that we weren’t the only ones who noticed the discrepancy.
In total, our dining experience lasted just shy of 3 hours and 30 minutes. While we expected a leisurely meal, this was far beyond what we anticipated. The restaurant was neither busy nor short-staffed, so the delays and issues felt avoidable. It was disappointing, especially since we were so looking forward to enjoying a fun and memorable...
