This particular branch of Golds Gym, under the helm of a purported general manager, showcases a profound lack of competence and respect, undermining the very essence of the franchise.
While a few standout staff members like Abbey shed a glimmer of hope, a disturbing cloud looms over the establishment in the form of an individual responsible for the children's area Theresa Dennehy. Her apparent mental instability raises dire concerns, rendering it hazardous to entrust children under her care.
My interaction with this gym was nothing short of a calamity. As a former military veteran seeking to rebuild my life, the two-week pass availed me a temporary sanctuary. However, my attempt to utilize basic facilities for personal upkeep culminated in an ordeal that could only be described as a gross miscarriage of justice.
Being summarily expelled from the premises, with disproportionate police involvement and an unwarranted year-long ban, all for the simple act of occupying a chair in the men's locker room, epitomizes an egregious mishandling of a mundane situation.
In essence, the treatment I endured wasn't merely disrespectful—it was an assault on fundamental human dignity. As someone endeavoring to reintegrate into civilian life post-service, the lack of empathy or understanding was not just disappointing but a display of the gross inadequacy and callousness exhibited by the general manager. This incident, indicative of the establishment's evident lack of professionalism and decorum, should serve as a cautionary tale to prospective patrons.
The Golds Gym branch in question presents an unsettling portrait of incompetence and a severe lack of respect, exacerbated by the deplorable conduct of its supposed leader, the general manager.
While a small glimmer of hope is found in a few exceptional staff members like Abbey, a distressing cloud looms over the establishment in the form of Theresa Dennehy responsible for the children's area. Her apparent mental instability and potential danger to children underline a grave concern, casting a shadow on the safety of patrons’ young ones.
My experience within the walls of this gym transcended disappointment, plunging into the realm of sheer calamity. As a military veteran seeking to rebuild a shattered life, the hope was that this gym would offer respite. However, the brief respite was swiftly overshadowed by an ordeal that metamorphosed into a gross violation of respect and human dignity.
The humiliation I endured, being summarily ejected from the premises, stands as a testament to the gross mishandling of a situation. The intrusive involvement of law enforcement and an unjustifiable year-long ban, all stemming from the mere act of occupying a chair in the men's locker room for a mere 10 minutes before preparing for work, is a grotesque display of overreach and incompetence on the part of the management.
The pain and embarrassment incurred were profound. To be subjected to the irrational and disproportionate involvement of police over such a triviality was not just an affront to my dignity but a stark indication of the establishment's lack of compassion and common sense.
The humiliation of being publicly embarrassed by the staff's actions in an environment where one should feel safe and respected is an experience that lingers deeply. The total lack of understanding, empathy, or even basic communication in handling a member, who was merely utilizing the facilities in good faith, was not just disheartening but a severe blow to the principles of respect and decency.
This incident was not just an individual mishap but an indictment of the establishment's blatant disregard for the human element in their pursuit of superficial rules. The lasting impact of the disgraceful treatment endured within the walls of this gym serves as a stark warning to any potential patrons considering patronizing such an...
Read moreI am so thankful to have the opportunity to give feedback on, by far, the best trainer I've ever hired. Ryan trains every member of my family. His passion and his knowledge in the sport of powerlifting encouraged both my sons to join powerlifting competitions. They are setting goals for themselves and achieving those goals under Ryan's watchful eye. Ryan is always available to my family and goes well beyond basic technique building. The encouragement and the professionalism he gives to my sons is nothing short of absolutely wonderful.
My daughter who trains with Ryan two days a week is interested in just strength training. Ryan's approach with her is so gentle and so encouraging, that this is really the only sport she's willing to participate in. So I'm thrilled he has made it possible that fitness is part of her life.
I too train with Ryan. My fitness goals are weight loss and degenerative disease prevention. I train with Ryan three days a week and I do cardio on my own. I can't believe how strong I actually have become. Never thought I would be squatting, but I am. Surprisingly I'm actually more comfortable weighing myself in front of Ryan then by myself. That is what kind of trainer Ryan is. He's 100% supportive of his clients needs. We are also grateful to have him in our lives we absolutely love him and value him as our family's trainer.
A word on Zack, I am not sure what his exact title is but I believe he is a regional manager. He too participates with Ryan and watches my sons progress constantly. Again, the support, service and just overall care they have shown my family is just amazing. In a school paper, my youngest son actually identified Ryan and Zack as the two greatest role models in his life. That indeed speaks directly to the true impact they have had.
If you're looking for a trainer that cares about your fitness goals, will help you build confidence over your insecurities and develop personal expectations that you never thought you could achieve. Look no further....Ryan needs to be...

Things have gone downhill a lot here. Why am I charged twice a year for updates if hardly any updates are ever made? And now that fee has risen nearly 39%? Without any option to object. I see some improvements, like the new flooring & some new machines, but I also see bathroom sinks that are always soaking wet & truly should be remodeled. The whole bathroom, just look at the quality. I also see no improvements to the women's locker room in all the 6/7 years I've been here, yet the men's have a TV? We spend more time in our locker room as some of us stretch in there to do so in a more private location. A TV (and fixed ceiling) would go a long way.
I see the gym trying to improve, so I hope to up my review soon. Smoothie bars are cool and all but how about making the gym more women friendly? I'd be happy to consult should someone reach out.
Edit 2/24: Staff used to clean great here regularly but I think they must had let the cleaning crew go in COVID or restricted their hours after because it's seriously nasty if you look close at any machine, though the facility is clean otherwise!
I came in today as the staffed hours ended & the bathroom is out of TP! Like, is there no pride in establishments anymore? (Managers I'm looking at you, not your employees who aren't trained differently.)
If there were any other big gyms in LKN, I'd be gone 🙄 Stuck here, guess I'll have to deal with dust (which I'm allergic to) & all the nonsense. (Seriously, this is on the people who attend more, but if there is a need for multiple signs reminding you to WEAR CLOTHES then YIKES!!!)
I miss the Gold's Gym it was when I signed up in 2019.
Old Review: I haven't had a gym I can thrive in for years now. Thank you Gold's and a big thank you to the staff!!! For the Lake Norman area, it's easily one of the biggest...
