I have a gold chain I've been pawning at a local shop for years, which I get regular loans of over $700 on. I decided to try Gold Master to see what they would offer to buy it flat out. My chain was looked at by Paul and he offered $310. The scrap value of the chain is nearly $800 and he lied to me and said it was $310. When I asked why his price was less than half of that of pawn shop I had been using, he said "because they're going to resell it, we're going to scrap it" not knowing that I already knew the real scrap value was $800, which he was being dishonest about. I then asked "you don't resell jewelry?" as he stood behind 10 cases of jewelry for sale and he said "no." The owner, Sal, was standing close to us and heard the entire conversation but acted disinterested, which made it obvious that this is how the shop regularly operates. As a pastor at Micahs Light Ministries, I refuse to do business with dishonest businesses. I will not be going into Gold Master ever again.
UPDATE: Sal, the owner has replied to my review and left dishonest information as a response below. I'll respond in this update to those statements since I can't leave a direct reply...
Sal says "When you go to a pawn shop the reason they lend you a higher amount is because they make interest off you." Actually, they loan you money based on the value of their item so that if you default, they can sell your item and make back the loan. They don't just loan more money than your item is worth. That statement is just flat out wrong.
Then Sal says "When we buy items to scrap them means that we give you the amount at that level of melting it, which is less than what you may feel your chain is worth." You're assumption that I don't know how to look-up scrap gold values is wrong. It's a pretty easy thing to do. When I came into your location, I already knew the scrap value of my chain, which is $800. You guys offered $310. Nice try though Sal.
Next, Sal says "I also looked up the ministry you say you belong to and could not find any existence of it locally." Again, nice try Sal. It's obvious Sal didn't even look. Even an extremely basic Google search of my ministry's name, which I listed, would have found my ministry's page, with my picture right on the site. Now Sal is trying to discredit me on top of the dishonest way he treated me. Seems pretty vindictive.
Sal then says "you make an assumption that Sal was listening to your conversation, which I am impressed that you knew his name without speaking to him. A pastor you should give people the benefit of the doubt that maybe he wasn't listening to your conversation" Just because I'm a pastor doesn't mean I should sit and be quiet when being taken advantage of. If I can point out such things and help others, I will do so every time. And of course I know who Sal is, he's on TV advertising his business, which is why I came in. Common sense there. Additionally, after I spoke up and said I'd been getting much more for years to Paul, Sal looked right at me and made eye contact with me and kept it as I explained this. Once Sal realized I knew what I was talking about, he turned his head and started ignoring me.
Finally, Sal says "I can assure you that the offer was made by the gold price for that day since that is the way we conduct our honest business. Just because you don't like an offer does not make a business dishonest." It wasn't that I didn't "like" your offer, it was that you told me the scrap value of my item was $310, when I already knew it was $800. Your offer was nowhere near the scrap value, not even half Sal.
UPDATE #2: Sal has since removed his foul response to my review, but not before I was able to quote the things he said. My review will stay up, as will his quoted responses. Avoid this company everyone, they...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt took them forever to get simple changes done on some of my jewelry. When I would call to talk to the person I was communicating with they were never in. When I asked to speak to the owner I was told... '"NO ONE GETS TO TALK TO THE OWNERS!!!"
They can take your money waste your time... but they are too good to talk to you!
When I finally got my jewelry not all of the pieces were done correctly... and when I picked it one of the most expensive pieces was not given back to me and I had to go back and get it after the force you to sign a document stating you picked up everything!
I had also in the beginning inquired about the price of a piece of jewelry they were selling and was told they would have to ask the owner and they would call me back on it... they never did call me back.
I for one do Not need abuse when I am paying someone Money! I will Never Be Back Nor will I ever recommend...
