Wonderful preserve nestled conveniently on Padre Island. This stand of trees (known as Packery Woodlands) hosts the oldest and most intact stand of trees on Padre Island. Naturally, it is full of wildlife. The tall group of trees at the entrance of the sanctuary are loaded with birds during the spring and fall. This motte is the first patch of significant habitat that they find when migrating in from the Gulf of Mexico. It's amazing to see brilliant Scarlet Tanagers and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks point-blank.
This sanctuary is owned and maintained by the Audubon Outdoor Club of Corpus Christi and the club works hard, volunteering their own time, to ensure the sanctuary is top quality for the wildlife and visitors. A trail system is being expanded by the club, and there is a brand new overlook at the highest point of the sanctuary where you can see all the way to the Laguna Madre.

The Audubon Outdoor Club does good work in maintaining and improving without harming habitat. Amazing folks these birders who work to keep this bit alive and well. Thank you Outdoor Club,...
