I took my 10 year old son to Dallas for some father-son time. I decided to go to Hobby Town on Walnut Hill. I must say, this hobby shop really has the goods. We looked the shop over... kept going back to the RC Cars. I had bought my son an RC off E-bay for about $200 for Christmas. It seemed every time he played with it... it broke. I had already purchased approximately the original cost of the car in parts. It was very frustrating.
I decided to surprise my son and bought him a Traxxas Slash 4X4. We visited with some of the guys that work in the shop and they all told me this was the best. We paid for the car and headed back to Denison... quite a drive for an RC.
When we arrived home at 7:45 and opened the box, we determined we had been given the wrong car... a 2 wheel drive version. I called the store and explained what happened. The voice response on the other end was what really blew me away. Adam, the voice on the other end immediately told me he was getting in his car and bringing me the correct car... 75 miles away... I could not believe it. The normal response from every vendor I have ever had a mistake with was.. Sorry, bring it back and we will correct it. Not Hobby Town... they brought it to me at 9PM at night.
My experience with Hobby Town Walnut Hill is unparalleled. I highly recommend them.
My son has driven this car without mercy and it has not broken yet. Thanks for the good advice of an...
Read moreI bought a slot car for my grandson for Christmas at HobbyTown USA yesterday for $60. When I got home my wife had bought him something else and wanted me to return it. I went in today to do that and was informed that they do not allow returns and will only issue store credit or exchange. When I question such a policy I was informed by the customer service representative there that they have that printed on their receipt (which was placed in my shopping bag along with the car. In looking at the receipt it says the following: Exchanges or store credits on Unopened Merchandise with Original Receipt within 30 days of Purchase NO CASH OR CREDIT REFUNDS.
I was absolutely shocked as the item was unopened and returned in under 24 hours of purchase. I can't ever remember shopping in a store that would not except returns for purchase price if done within a stated return period (7, 15, 30 days etc.) and am incensed that they operate on a once we have your money we will not return it policy. I have vowed never to shop with them again and also spend as much time as possible to make sure that they learn that such customer unfriendly policies are a mistake and cost way more than the small amount of profit they greedily refuse to give up in the case of a legitimate exchange. Buyer beware when it comes to shopping with HobbyTown...
Read moreI do a lot of business there and now days its a very friendly atmosphere and the have the supplies in stock when im in a pinch for supplies.
For awhile, every time i was in there a older gentlemen, balding with glasses would watch me and followed me as if he thought i was gonna steal something, Made me very uncomfortable. Im 6'3" and have Tattoos, but im a modeler with know ill intentions, but always felt he was ready to pounce if a made even a suspicious move. I haven't seen him in there in quite some time and its no longer an issue.
One BIG complaint is while the Armor selection is great, the prices are ridiculously high. I haven't bought a kit from them in several years now. I can get the same kits for less over the internet including shipping. They really should rethink their prices as i would consider buying kits there if they were competitive. I always want to support my local HS but they need to make prices right that they can move their stock much quicker and i know a lot of local Armor builders who feel the same.
I know nothing about RC stuff so i cant comment on that. But still i always find what i need in the way of supplies, so that's a bonus.
Id like to give a better rating, but with the kits not priced to move. I must...
