I have been practicing at this studio for the past 8 years and it is perfect for me and I would highly recommend the experience.
I travel quite extensively and at time of writing this review, I have active packages in DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia and NYC and my unlimited package at bikramyogadallas. I mention this to be able to draw some comparisons.
STUDIO: The space is amazing since they refreshed the studio 18-24 months ago. The design is very modern (loft feel), glass walls, great floors and bathrooms. The heating system is state of the art and you have a consistent heat every class.
INSTRUCTORS: I think everyone is great at the studio, everyone knows my name and challenges me when I step into the room. Yes, I have days when I wish I could just hang below the radar, but that tends to result in a bad class for me in the end. There are several traveling teachers that rotate through the studio every 6 months and its nice to have a fresh perspective (same dialog of course, but every class is different). I think David and Karen (owners) are great and I find I seek out their classes.
DISCIPLINE: I think this studio tends to have higher than average discipline/control in class. First of all, few, if any, Bikram studios in the country/world will let you in 5 min after class has started. Honestly, it drives me crazy when I visit other studios and teachers do not have control of the room (eg. Students modifying postures, talking, coming in and out of the room, etc).
If you have never tried Bikram yoga, its different. Teachers do not practice with students and speak over a microphone (typically). If you come from vinyasa background, the best comparison is that vinyasa is meditation through motion and Bikram is meditation through stillness. There are the same 26 postures and two breathing exercises every class you go to. Its amazing how different each class is with the same dialog and postures in every class.
You can go anywhere in the world and take the "same" class (you should try Bikram in a foreign language you do not know, its quite fun). Each studio and teacher has a different style, community, and experience.
I love this studio, the teachers and will continue to practice here. I would encourage you to give it a try, a real try (ie. 10 classes). The first time I tried the class, I wanted to run out. I am...
Read moreJust purchased an unlimited first month, visiting for 10 days from Scottsdale. My daughter in law began here & I have drifted from ALL forms of exercise over the past 5 years. I am usually a very active 60 year old, but beginning a new business, I have been spending too much time sitting at my computer getting tight shoulders & neck.
This studio surprised me that students were allowed in at 5 minutes after class. It's not too bad of a disruption, but had never experienced that before. Was turned away twice where I started in Kearny Mesa, CA. Also, the 60 minute option is something I had not seen in So CA where I started with Bikram. Love that as an option!
Completed two days in a row and on next day hurt so good! Even the muscles in the front of my neck, which is great for my thyroid area got worked out! Every part of me feels better than before. Other forms of exercise are not of the same benefit level to my major organs.
I tried a gym membership this year and it did not work out for me. The heat makes me feel like my body is being held by the heavier air, I feel safer as a result & the cost benefit ratio on time vs. results is an indisputable home run for me. I am not yet able to complete even one sit up on the floor series, but I know I will get there having done Bikram faithfully & consistently in the past.
Already after only two classes, I can feel the shift in my lung capacity. Delighted that my daughter in law started this - it is a tremendous help in motivating me to start it up again!
Already have a 30+ year practice of meditation, so being focused & still is not a problem for me, having practiced letting my thoughts float by like leaves skittering down the street, blown by the wind - just don't go with them.
Amazing HVAC system which I appreciate - having remodeled an EMERALD level NHBA certified home. Never saw this at my old studio:) Overall neither of the instructors were as strict as my CA studio. Everyone I have met there is...
Read moreIf you like a drill Sargent, negative reinforcement, insulting yoga practice, then this place would be perfect for you. However, I prefer a peaceful and relaxing yoga experience. While I had two instructors who were positive and respectful the rest where unprofessional and disrespectful. In addition, the floors keep the sweet and odor in the room. Which I did become oblivious to a few minutes into class but at first, it is quite repulsive. I have been to other hot yoga studios with wood floors that are cleaned after every class and do not retain odors. However, the reasons I will not return are as follows. One of the instructors went as for as to insult a student in his class because he was not educated in the modifications of we pose we were doing. A women at the front of the room came to her rescue to stop the barrage from the instructor and teach him about the different modifications. Another example is when a student walked into the studio a few minutes late. The instructor stopped teaching to point out that she was late. This is a 90 minute class and she was maybe 3-4 minutes late and came in quietly. A few minutes later the instructor brought her up again, then a third time. The instructor was being extremely unprofessional and making more of a disturbance then the girl did. She was also extremely disrespectful to her during class by insulting her ability to fully get into the position. I felt so bad for the girl I almost left the class early. My philosophy of yoga is to always listen to your body and go with what feels right. I do not agree with the way this studio conducts it's self or their lack of...
