Henry Ford Centennial Library — Attraction in Dearborn

The Henry Ford Centennial Library is a large, rectangular building.

It is very imposing.  From Michigan Avenue there is a large entryway.  It is difficult to access it.  You need to drive around back and enter the building from there.

It is finely designed and the white marble is striking in the sunlight or the rain.  It is very beautiful in the evening.  The interior is very interesting.  The entryway leads to a circular stairway which you must take if you are going to check out a book.  The checkout desk is on the second floor.  So is the reference desk.

I didn’t see the entire collection.  What I saw was a standard offering.  They have a LOT of books.  The building is as voluminous inside as you would expect after having it seen it from the outside.

The clerks at the checkout desk were very happy to assist me.  I went to the Reference Desk and was also treated with respect and dignity – except for one clerk who we’ll just assume was having a bad day.

There is a fountain sculpture in the first floor lobby.  I caution you not to look at it while heading up the staircase or heading down the staircase.  Just thinking about it right now is making me dizzy – so think about it with caution too.  Otherwise it’s a...

Love this library as it has something for everyone. The second floor is the main library floor which houses the media, computers, and Children's Area (super fun for kids!) Sound-insulated booths are available too, which are great for single person studying. The third floor has a large quiet study room with ergonomic chairs and a thermostat that can be controlled by guests, which is nice. I can study there for hours without getting uncomfortable! Wifi is available for cardholders only, but is unfortunately not very fast, and you can only connect one device at a time.

As some reviewers have pointed out, the security and staff are strict on enforcing the rules, but I found they still maintain a friendly demeanor. I personally appreciate this because even the quiet rooms get too noisy for serious studying once school is out and kids come in around 5, so I don't go there in the evenings. I guess kids will...

This library is great but the guards are verrrry verrrrrrrrrrry verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry annoying..to the point where I want to... C'mon they would tell u the stupidest s* like wear ur shoes, legs are touching chairs..move that there, don't look there, can't eat a cracker...etc. they just add more stress to what we r already goin thru..Very childish!! I noticed they only mess with young girls...My study partner left because she couldn't handle them and I have to come here because it's close from home, and so that I can check on my 8-month-old baby......... I have to study for a standardized exam and they just need to chill...If it wasn't for my baby I would go to a diff library and let these s** guards rot in there. They just freak me out! Dudes!!!
