Zonolite Trail — Attraction in Decatur

I took my kids to run here. Although the area is small, there is a lot of beauty and mystery. The groomed trails are sufficient if you need to get in a few easy miles, but you have to be content to loop around about once every minute or so. There's plusses and minuses to that. If you have kids with you, you can all run at your own pace and you can hear them pretty much wherever they go in the park. Some of the ungroomed trails go interesting places, but they are pretty significantly overgrown. Be prepared to jump, duck, and climb. The creek is fun, and there are a few bridges to cross. Some of them are very safe, and others have a menacing look about them. The wetlands wildlife is strong here; at duck, the chorus of bullfrogs is insanely loud. Zen in the city! I love this trail. We enjoyed a nice stroll along the path into the woods and it runs along a creek with a small little beach area where people bring their dogs or kids to splash around in. I also liked the community garden and there are benches along the trail. There are signs about snakes but when on a trail in the middle of the woods that’s pretty much a given. Great place to take dogs! Large mowed lawn area to play fetch. Really well kept community garden. Maintained trails meander through primarily hardwood/ coniferous forest.
