Chautauqua Vineyards & Winery — Attraction in DeFuniak Springs

We were in town for my birthday weekend getaway and saw the winery. Honestly, I wasnt overly excited, until I saw that they grow most of their own grapes. It has been my experience that places that grown their own grapes make a superior product. Just my opinion. Boy howdy, was this place worth the stop. So we did the tasting, which consists of their 6 base wines, plus 2 of our choosing and finished with samples of the wine slushies. First of all, our host, Taylor, was amazing! So knowledgeable. OK, lets just cut to the slushies. OMG! I dont know how to describe them and do them justice. We had the Peach Bellini and the Blueberry Pomegranate....both were great, but the peach was better. As for the wines, the prices were very reasonable and you get a discount for buying a case. Did we buy a case? Is the Pope a Bears fan? The wines we like best were the Carlos Muscadine, Beachberry Breeze, Honeyflower Breeze, and Beach Bliss. They were all light, crisp, and refreshing. They were sweet, without being syrupy and heavy. It is about 4 hours down from our house, so maybe too far for a day trip, but then again, we could always come down, stock up on our favorites and then head to the beach for a seafood dinner. Best tasting experience to date. Kiran was hosting us. She was super knowledgable about the wines including all the little tips on how best to use the wine when cooking and what flavors you could mix to create the best taste. My guy and I have some varying tastes and Kiran was able to pinpoint the perfect wine out of Chautaugua’s large collection of flavors! The wines are full-bodied in flavor and there really is something for everyone there! Kiran also was sure to mention the additional perks included with being a wine club member that I was not aware of! We are all excited about the upcoming wine pickup party in Feb!

We brought our kids along as well to enjoy some of the yard games while we enjoyed the winery tastings. They had a blast! Plenty of space for them to run around and toss a ball. We will be planning additional trips with friends, we have already talked about a game day while...

It finally worked out & I took my friend to the Chautauqua Winery Defuniak Springs days ago. We absolutely loved it! We did a 🍷 wine sampling & had a lot of fun with Toree (Torie? i forgot the way she spells her name) as she gave interesting info & ideas on different wines. Ali was helpful & great at explaining things like becoming a member of the winery & how that works. Both were Southern-Friendly -which we value ! From there we checked out Defuniak Springs library history & had a nice meal at one of several restaurants Ali recommended. Our day was delightful & I think I'd love living in Defuniak Springs! We also adored the gift shop with all the different items. We love the wine we purchased 🍷 & will be back & bring more friends with us ! Thank you, Ali & Torie...
