We were glad to see camping areas as there's no hotels in delphi and limited surrounding due to visitors from out of town were up. The only thing was the stinch of something that was possibly coming from the canal? I'm not sure but it was a smell that ever so often would make you sick. And not just this area but at the courthouse as well. That's another sick encounter as it seems a man has been held imprisoned for the last 2 yrs with basically no evidence to support his charges. Jmo. Sick that a killer still runs free after 2 kids were abducted on government property then taken elsewhere and murdered. Sick that things like this happen in our world. However it was good to see cameras up at the entrances to the trail area, although I'm not certain the ones at the bridge entrance were on? I've always been confused how crimes like this still happen so easily with the technology we have today? New planets have been discovered but we can't tell what someone's face looks like or have a good timeline that is more accurate? It is government property where the first crime occurred that would likely answer the rest. Sorry I should've waited for monon bridge to give my take on most of this. Moral of the story is lovely town that reeks...
Read moreThe wife and I traveled two days from central New York to reach this park. Although it was after Labor Day and many of the buildings were closed, we enjoyed walking through and were lucky enough to get an after season boat ride. The main building has a decent museum and small gift shop. The staff of volunteers are warm and welcoming. The park is made up of many donated buildings and bridges that were moved to the old canal site. Each building has been restored and interpreted. There are also other displays, all connected by a walking trail along the canal. The boat ride lasted about 40 minutes and covers about a mile round trip. It is well narrated and the staff are well informed and happy to share with you. There are picnic tables and benches about the park. Nearby is the small city of Delphi, so be sure to take time to walk about and explore this as part of your trip. You can easily spend the best part of the day here if you really like...
Read moreCutest little park/history village. Old Wabash canal and tow path. Canal is kind of slow flowing and stagnant. Not the best smells on a hot day... Bike trail to DQ was a little overgrown and old/worn. But I still like the fact you can bike around this little town. Tomorrow is the Bacon festival in Delphi, stay tuned!!!.. Bacon festival 2023 was great. Lots of people, not sure where they all came from. Allman Brothers type band was great, we listened as we are our bacon Mac n cheese, pork sandwich es, bacon fluffinutter cookie, oh and lots of just plain bacon. Mmmmmmm. Lots of give aways, lots of things for kids to do. Definitely worth going to.
Oh, we stayed in our RV here. They have 7 sites. Very cute, level grassy sites. Some full hookup , some not. They do have bathroom and shower room, which was nice. You can also rent the log cabin as a Airbnb for...
