I recently visited The Buttermilk Biscuit Company & Coffee Shop, drawn in by its charming interior and open atmosphere. However, standing in line to order felt out-of-place given the restaurantâs otherwise polished ambiance. It seemed less personal than I expected, more like a mall food court experience rather than the cozy, friendly small-town dining experience one would hope for.
As someone who has extensively traveled across the United States specifically seeking out the best biscuit and gravy offerings, I have high standards for a truly exceptional southern breakfast. Many of my family and friends grew up in the hills of Tennessee and Kentucky, where they offered top-notch home-cooked meals that set a very high bar for me.
Given that âButtermilk Biscuitâ is prominently featured in the name, I was excited to see if this restaurant could live up to its promise. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met. The biscuits were disappointingly dense and heavy, lacking the lightness and fluffiness of a well-prepared buttermilk biscuit. To make matters worse, the sausage gravy was bland and lacked depthâit tasted more like white gravy with a few pieces of flavorless sausage than the robust, savory dish I crave.
On the plus side, their coffee offering was excellent, and the pricing for the menu items was reasonable. My wifeâs veggie omelet looked fantastic, and she enjoyed her meal thoroughly, which is encouraging to hear.
Despite my disappointment with the biscuits and gravy, I admire the restaurant's effort to bring something new to town and plan on giving it another chance by trying different menu items. Constructive feedback is crucial for growth, especially in a competitive local dining scene. Interestingly, other friends and family who have visited the restaurant also mentioned that their biscuits were too dense and heavy, not what they had hoped for.
If you're looking for that quintessential buttermilk biscuit experience, this place might not be your first choice just yet. However, if youâre open to exploring new flavors or other dishes on their menu, The Buttermilk Biscuit Company & Coffee Shop could still offer a worthwhile dining adventure. I look forward to revisiting and hope for an improved experience with another dish...
Read moreI needed WiFi for a meeting so I stopped in here and ordered an omelet and an americano. The omelet came out served with a giant biscuit, which I normally do not eat and if Iâd noticed on the menu that it came with it I would have told them to leave it off as I rarely eat grains. After taking a few bites of the omelet, I started eyeballing the biscuit⊠Now, I want to preface this with the fact that I am extremely picky about my biscuits, very few people can make a decent one and most people butcher am omelet as well. But, this omelet was I think maybe the BEST omelet I have ever had in my LIFE! It was cooked to perfection, extremely moist, but nothing wet, perfect ratio of veggies, and the perfect size. The omelet was so good that I had to try just one bite of the biscuit, after that bite I had to try one more just to make sure it was really THAT GOODâŠnext thing I knew I slathered it with REAL butter and snarfed the entire massive thing. And I enjoyed every freaking bite of it. Also, they cook with REAL BUTTER!!! The Americano was very good. The only thing I was disappointed with was they didnât half heavy cream or even real half and half for my coffee. So, I would highly recommended they obtain one of those, itâs a cheap fix over the nasty little single serve that donât have to be refrigerated. I live in Lafayette, but I will 100% be driving here for breakfast in the futureâŠand bringing my own cream until they...
Read moreAs someone who comes in to town every weekend during lake season it has been hard to find food that I really love. I was looking for a coffee shop type vibe for my Monday morning and this was perfect. Reading other reviews I noticed that people seemed to think this was a sit down restaurant which it is not and that is not what I went for. Nothing about their website or marketing would even lead you to this conclusion. Much like other coffee shops you order at the counter however they did bring our food to the table which was an added bonus that most don't do. So that was great. The seating was nice and had no awkwardness to it. The decor was on point and I especially loved the bar. Gorgeous!!!!!!!! So I don't know why people would complain at all. Ignore them. Maybe the local demographic isn't used to this kind of set up. We ordered mostly biscuits and drinks. All were phenomenal. Others stated the biscuits were dense which yes they were but in the best of ways. Not in a dry over mixed way. In a perfect way. In a way that is stable to hold all the butter and jam and goodness. It was obviously home made and I appreciated that as a fellow baker and shop owner. I especially enjoyed the strawberry jalapeño house made jam. It wasn't too spicy and full of flavor. This will for sure become a regular stop for us. If you ever think of expanding the Fort Wayne food scene is amazing and would love...
