This was my first time and I was recommended by a family friend. The front desk staff were extremely nice. I did not have to wait long at all which was good. I was very disappointed with the assistant that did my intake (i forget her name). She wasn't very personable at all. Almost felt like she didn't care. I had brought test results from a recent allergy test (in which I'm allergic to the outside world apparently) because I felt like it was relevant to why I was in. Instead, she just said 'we don't need this at all' I tried telling her that I felt like the doctor may want to see it and she just gave me a blunt 'no' . After me trying to explain why I was there, I had asked for a gown (3 times) because the areas of concern required me to remove clothing. Instead of going to get the gown (after asking those 3 times) she told me to just take off my clothing to show her. I said no, i feel more comfortable if I had a gown on please. She finally got up to get it (with an attitude) as if she couldn't take the 4 steps to get one. So that made me feel very uncomfortable.
Then Dr. Harkaway came in and she was pleasant at first. Then all of a sudden she rushed through my appointment to the point where I kept forgetting some things i wanted to discuss. And of course she did ask me if I have seasonal allergies and such. Which obviously annoyed me because I brought those results in, that the assistant declined to take, for a reason. But of course the doctor didn't bother to look at it. What also made me feel uncomfortable was that the assistant was in the room with the doctor (which is obviously okay)but when I would blank on something I told her and was forgetting to ask the doctor, I looked to the assistant to back me up and she just blankly starred at me as if she was thinking, I'm not helping you remember what you told me and she didn't say a word.
The doctor made me feel as if I was completely wasting her time and didn't take me seriously at all. She barely examined me and just said 'oh yeah that's this, and that's that' but gave me no reason as to why. I instead had to keep asking if she could give me an explanation, but her answers were awful, rushed, and very very uninformative. I have many medical issues (which were stated on my paperwork), and she didn't even bother to ask me about any of that or discuss. I was curious as to maybe these sudden skin issues could be correlated with my medical issues, but again, she didn't seem to care whatsoever with anything I had to say, as if I was a joke to her. The only thing she did do that I was okay with was use some injection (I was never told what) to a problem area to help ease the irritation.
Overall, I was extremely disappointed since she was highly recommend to me. I do have to agree with some other reviews about her seeming to care more about the cosmetic side of things. I will be definitely finding another dermatologist that specializes and cares more about the important side of being a...
Read moreIf you are looking for a local dermatologist in the area PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE!
I visited this location last year and they recently sent me an email for a follow up visit to take more of my money. Instead I am writing this review which I should have wrote last year. I see that everyone else experienced the same treatment from the front desk and Dr. Harkaway. Very suspicious. Not surprised..
When I showed up for my appointment which was supposed to be a "free evaluation" as told by the front desk over the phone, I ended up having to pay a $75 copay for my first visit. THEY DO NOT DO FREE EVALUATIONS, and they will not tell you that if you were wondering; other dermatologist companies do. For Covid policy, they did not allow my mom to come in with me to the room when she wanted to be there to hear the doctor's diagnosis and discussion with me on my condition. I was coming in for melasma which the doctor just looked at for 5 seconds and stated "there's nothing medically wrong with it, it looks fine to me, it's just hyperpigmented. So to be clear, you're asking for treatment just because you don't like the way it looks."
That's like telling a patient who has been insecure about their thin lip appearance and wants to seek botox treatments for fuller lips, that their lips look fine..
The whole time I was in that room I felt rushed, the assistant doctor was just standing there, my concerns were dismissed and, as a doctor, she had no intention on helping me. I told her that I was interested in laser treatment to lighten the area as I've tried everything topical (over-the-counter and prescription-based) for most of my life. But she disagreed and said that since my skin is darker, the laser treatment they have won't work, then recommended "another" topical solution that was about $185 called CYSPERA. She was so quick to leave the room that it almost felt rude, because what else was so important to tend to at a quiet doctor's office at 8am? With no hello or goodbye during that whole interaction(NOTE: that I was a first-time patient), I was suposed to use the cream for 16 weeks maximum to see results. I saw NO CHANGE and it was a complete waste of time and money for me and my mom who did not get to even see or hear the doctor.
This location is not respresenting Schweiger Dermatology very well if this is not what Schweiger represents.
*I am currently seeing RINGPFEIL DERMATOLOGY which has a variety of laser options(suitable for many skin colors), topical treatments, tattoo removals, botox, hair removal, etc. and more qualified doctors and aestheticians that want to help you. I've seen improvement after my first laser treatment, I've never seen that area look lighter than it did in my life. They also have FREE...
Read moreI had a really bad experience here. I’ve been coming for years and had a skin flair up over the past 6 months from which my own background in science & medicine pointed me towards the direction of a fungal infection. I was completely disregarded & told that “I have been in dermatology for 10 years and know what conditions are what” instead of hearing me out, exploring the possibility of other conditions. I had been prescribed by her clindamycin cream & benzoyl peroxide wash, and believed to have had a skin reaction from this combo. Nevertheless, she pointed me in the direction of birth control (regardless of my many asks of not taking this option) & told me it was hormonal/needed steroids. I am very well versed in my own health, & what my body can & cannot handle. Other than the occasional skin sensitivities I have, I have no other health concerns; so when seeking guidance from a skin care professional I felt as though this was a very straight forward diagnosis that was misdiagnosed.
I was ITCHY, with many different types of pimples along my spine up, shoulders, to my neck with flair ups. I had it as well on my forehead and CHIN. With lots of research and different perspectives I was assuming it was pityrosporum folliculitis (a fungal infection) with an overgrowth of yeast. Which is VERY common due to many products being prescribed.
The dermatologist here (I will not point names), did not take the time to fully assess my symptoms & or listen to my needs. I recommend always getting a second opinion before taking a prescription cream or pill.
I finally went to a new dermatologist with a very well organized system & skin care providers who take the time to listen and understand you.
I ENDED UP BEING CORRECT IN MY ASSUMPTION. It was PF & was prescribed a antifungal gel & tablet for 6 days to help flush that overgrowth of yeast out of me. Listen to your gut always! Your health care provider should be working with you, not against you. They should also be taking addition continuing education courses to expand their knowledge and skills, as well as assessing all the possibilities.
As a health care provider myself, I feel as though it is so important to make your patients feel heard and respected. At the end of the day, I did not feel this way. I am extremely disappointed in the change of this practice over the course of my 6 years of...
